To all vii/tom it may concern Be it known that I, lViLLiAM. l LsoN, a citizen of the Uiited States, and a resident of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and improved Necktie Former and Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to a device particularly adapted for use with turn-down collars and arranged to constitute means on which a four-in-lnind tie may be formed.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple device for the indicated purpose which may be detachably secured to the collar independently of the collar button.

A further object is to provide a device of the class referred to provided with col. larclamping means at the ends and in which the tie-forming and holding member will constitute a substantially direct connection between the clamp members, whereby to accommodate the tie while being formed tl ereon, and when formed, the whole length of the connecting member being available for the manipulation of the tie and for its proper adjustment.

The invention also has for its object to provide a tie device of the class referred to in which the tie-holding member will be firmly sustained on a line adjacent to the top of the collar.

Other objects and the advantages of my improved device will appear from the specific description following.

Figure 1 is a front perspective view of my improved necktie former and fastener showing the same in use, the collar included in the view being partly broken away;

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device.

In forming a practical embodiment of my invention, a bar 10 is formed preferably of resilient wire. At the ends thereof clamps are formed by bending the material downwardly as at 11 and then returning it on itself as at 12, the terminals 13 being turned over to prevent sharp ends.

Thus, in general, the device is of inverted U-shape, in which the bar 10 forms a substantially direct connection between the de pending clamp members. The length, that is to say, the height of the clamp members,

is such that the bar 10 will be sustained adjacent to the top of the collar A across the overlapped ends thereof.

he members 11 and l2 are resilient and are in close juxtaposition except at their juncture as at l-t. in which they are sep arated to constitute eyes that will accommodate the relatively thickened edge or scam of the collar at the lower edge of the band. The bar 10, in practice, curves in two directions, having a slight curve ven tically and laterally. The lateral curvature conforms approximately to the rounding lines of the collar, while the vertical. curvature tends to position the tie at the center.

In practice, the inner members 12 of the end clamps are entered beneath the band a of the collar and the device brought to a position with the eyes it against the lower edge of the band, thus positioning the tie-holding bar 10 near the top of the collar. The terminals 13 lie adjacent to the bar 1-0 so that notwithstanding the high position of the said bar, there is an eifective clamping action adjacent to the bar so that the latter is steadied on the collar and firmly held in proper position. Moreover, the device is held in position entirely independent of.the collar button C. It will be observed also that in forming the knot b of a four-in-hand tie B, the whole length of the bar 10 is available for the manipulation of the tie since it extends substantially direct from one clamp to the other without break or interruption. Moreover, by reason of the device being wholly free from the collar and button, there is ample clearance between the clamps and beneath the bar 10, for the manipulation of the tie.

An important advantage of the inven tion is that any ordinary four-in-hand tie can be employed notwithstanding the usual narrow neck band portion of the tie. By providing the end clamps as the sole means for holding the device in position, the securing means is thus effectively concealed by the collar ends entirely so that the tie does not require any special manipulation in order to conceal the device since the only portion not covered by the collar is that crossing the collar opening-and this short portion of the bar is wholly concealed by the ordinary members entering into the usual knot o, of a fo .n'in-11and tie.

It is to be observed that the end clamps diverge downwardly and thereby the covering of the same by the collar is insured.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

As a new article of manufacture, a necktie former, and fastener, of substantially inverted U-shape, and formed of a single piece of resilient wire bent intermediate of its ends downwardly and laterally to form a curved body free from projections, then having its ends bent downwardly to form eyes with the terminals extending to within a short distance of the body and parallel with and close to the downwardly extending end portions to form therewith clamps.
