CHARLES M. PAQUETTE, 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
SCARF-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1915.
Application filed January 20, 1914. Serial No. 813,318.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES M. PA UETTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scarf-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to scarf holders and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a scarf holder of such a construction which will hold the scarf in proper position relative to the collar, and which will assure a good appearance to the front portion of the scarf.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a scarf holder made from a single length of wire of the proper gage and resiliency, said holder designed to be used with the four-inl1and scarf in general use, or to be used with a made-up scarf, and which will be quick and easy to connect to the front collar-button and to support the neck band of the scarf at the sides of the knot in front.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the scarf holder and showing the scarf in dotted lines, and looking at the front or knot portion of the scarf, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the scarf and showing the scarf holder in dotted lines.
Referring to the drawing in which the scarf holder is shown made from a single piece of resilient wire of the required gage, the numerals 1 designate the two loops at the sides of the holder, said loops designed for the purpose of receiving the ends of the neck-band portion of the four-in-hand scarf. From the loops 1, the member 2 of the wire is curved downwardly and backwardly as shown and the members 3 extend from the loops 1 in parallel relation to the member 2. At the center the members 3 are twisted together as at 4. From this point, the members 5 are extended oppositely and then bent Copies of this patent may be downwardly as at 6 to converge at the bottom where the two members are twisted together as at 7 From the twisted portion 7 one of the terminals of the wire is formed into a backwardly turned prong 8. The other terminal of the wire is bent upwardly at 9 and curved at 10. The upper end of this terminal of the wire is formed into a hook 11 designed for the purpose of engaging the front 'collar-button.
The holder is connected to the scarf by passing the neck-band portions from the front through the loops 1, then forming the knot in the scarf to represent an ordinary four-inhand knot. The prong 8 is then in .serted in the material of the tie leaving the front button hook 11 in position to engage said button, with the ends of the neck portion of the tie placed underneath the flap of the collar.
The invention is simple in construction, can be made in different sizes for ties of different character, can be quickly connected to the front collar-button and collar and can be manufactured at low cost.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as de fined in the claim.
What is claimed is The hereindescribed scarf holder made from a single length of resilient wire comprising oppositely disposed loops to receive the neckband portion of a scarf, backwardly and downwardly curved parallel members extending inwardly from said loops, the wire from the center being bent outwardly and converging downwardly, one of the ends of said wire terminating in a prong to engage the back of the scarf, the other member being twisted around the shank of the prong and bent upwardly and bent into a hook at the terminal end for engaging the front collar button of a neckband of a shirt.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES M. PAQUETTE.
