UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN G. MAIER, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
N ECKTlE-SLIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,881, dated August 6, 189 5.
AApplication filed April 4, 1895i Serial No. 544,397. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. MAIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Slides; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation toimprovements in necktie-holders, and the object is to provide a necktie holder which will hold the necktie at the tie, bow,or knot from climbing up the collar, and at the same time sustain the collar in upright position and keep it in shapely condition when there is a tendency to break down from wear or perspiration.
My invention is fully and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and reference being thereto had- A designates a thin and light metal strip constituting the lower piece of the frame of the device, and made of such determined or selected length as the neck of the wearer requires. To this strip A, at intervals, are secured small metal supports 1, having their upper ends fastened to the upper band or strip of the frame, substantially as shown. The upper strip or band B of the frame, sustained, as stated, by the supports l, is preferably Inade of twisted wires, because of such article being more pliable and yielding than a single wire of the same diameter. To the one end of this frame is secured a keeper 2, having the ends of the respective upper and lower pieces of the frame secured in the ends thereof, substantially as shown. This keeper 2 is intended to have the small or narrow end portion of the necktie .passed and drawn through it. On the other end of the frame is suitably secured another keeper 3, similar in construction to the keeper 2, but preferably made longer to extend below the lower strip A, as shown at 4:, so that the broadened end of a four-in-hand tie may conveniently be drawn through it. On the lower strip A are on the tie.
secured two clasps 5 6, arranged substantially as shown, which take on and hold the inside turn-down of a lay-down collar.
My invention is particularly designed to be applied to a lay-down collar and for a fourin-hand tie; butother bowties may be used as Well.
To apply the holder to the tie and collar the following Inode may be adopted: The necktie is applied around the outside of the holder with the ends of the tie drawn through the keepers at the ends thereof. The holder' and necktie are then inserted between the foldY of the collar and the clasps clamped to the lower edge of the inside turn of the collar, which holds the collar to the holder and Thus arranged, 'the collar is buttoned in position, as usual, and the tie effected. The ends of the frame carrying the keepers do not reach from the ends of the collar, but are adjacent thereto and remain concealed by the outer turn-down portion thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p l. A necktie holder and collar support, comprising upper and lower strips, supports connecting the said strips, keepers on the ends of the strips adapted to have and hold a necktie drawn through them, and clamps on the lower strip to grasp the inner edge of the turn-down of the collar, substantially as specifled.
2. The necktie holder and collar support herein-described, comprising a lower strip A, an upper strip B, connecting supports l, between the strips, a short keeper 2, and a longer keeper 3, on the respective ends of the frame of the holder, and clasps 5, 6, on the lower strip, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
- JOHN G. MAIER. Witnesses: N. CURTIS LAMMoND, D. G. STUART.
