PATENTED DEC. 29, 1903.
I R. c. HOYBR.
SURGICAL OPERATING FRAME.
N0 MODEL.
APPLICATION IILEI) MAY 12. 1903.
witness/eo- UNITED STATES Patented December 29, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
s u ee |cA o PEBATVI NG FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 747,972, dated December 29, 1903. Application filed May 12, 1903. Serial No. 156,800. (No model.)
To all whom it mag concern;
 Be it known that I, RUDOLPH O. HOYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vicks; burg, in the county of Warren and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Surgical Operating-Frame, of which the following is a specification.
 My invention relates to surgical operatingtables; and the object of my invention is to provide a light and portable frame which furnishes in connection with an ordinary bed a convenient and inexpensive operating-table. l attain this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which--.
 Figure l is a perspective .view'of the entire frame in its open position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the entire frame in its closed position, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the manner of using the frame in connection with a bed.
 Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
 Referring to Fig. 1, four slats 1, 2, 3, and 4:, of any suitable material, preferably steel, are joined together at their intersections with each other by four pins 5, 6, 7,'and 8. These pins are adapted to make movable connections with the, slats, allowing the slats 1 and 3and 2 and 4 to move in a direction parallel to each other in pairs, thus forming a frame which can be easily expanded or contracted, as shown, respectively, in Figs. 1 and 2. The slats 1 and 2 are terminated at their free ends in stirrup's 9 and 10. These stirrups are shaped by slightly bending the ends of the slats 1 and 2 toward each other and upward and providing oval-shaped openings or loops at their ends.
 In its operation the frame is taken in its folded position, as in Fig. 2, making a light and portable package which can conveniently be carried about by a physician and applied by him immediately at the bedside by sirnpiy expanding the frame, as in Fig. l, and placing it on the bed under the mattress or under several folds of a quilt,'allowing the stirrups 9 and .10 to project from the side of the bed at a desirable-distance apart, as in Fig.3. The upper portionof the body of the patient is then placed over the frame, with the feet resting in the stirru ps, thus giving the patient a comfortable position, while it is convenient for the physician to perform the necessary operation.
 What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
1. In a portable surgical operating-frame,
four slats crossing each other, joined at their intersections by pins, these joints being adapt-- ed to give the slats movable connection in a direction parallel to each other in pairs; two of the slats terminating at their free ends in loops or stirrnps, substantially as set-forth.
 2. In a portable surgical operating-frame, four slats joined at their intersection with each other by means of pins so that the slats will have movable connection with each other, similar to a pair of shears; two of the slats at their free ends slightly bent toward each other and upward, forming loops or stirrups; substantially as and for the purpose specified.
