BAG HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,988, dated December 15, 1903.
Application filed August 14, 1902.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE W. OLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Volga, in the county of Polk and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bag-holders for detachably supporting bags of various sizes; and it consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bag-holder, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of a bag-supporting block forming part of my improved apparatus.
In the drawings, A represents the base. Supported at the opposite ends of the base A are the upright standards 2 and 3, preferably of hard wood. The standard 2 has fixed sup port in one end of the base A and in the crosspiece 4, secured underneath the base. The standard 3 is secured in the cross-pieces 5 and 6, which are slidably supported above and below the opposite end of the base. The cross-pieces 5 and 6 are connected by bolts 7 and 7 passing through longitudinal slots 8 and 8 in the base. The standard 3, intermediate of the cross-pieces 5 and 6, passes through the open-end longitudinal slot 9 in the end of the base. The bolts 7 and '7 are provided with nuts 10 and 10*, which can be loosened to allow adjustment of the crosspieces 5 and 6 with relation to the standard 2. By removing the bolts 7 and 7 it will be evident that the cross-pieces 5 and 6,with the supported standard 3, may be removed from the end of the base.
Slidably supported upon the standards 2 and 3 are the sack-supporting blocks B. Socured in the rear side of each of the blocks B is a metal staple 11 of sufficient size to fit loosely over the standard. One end of the staple 11 passes through the block and is pro- $erial1lo. 119,612. (No model.)
vided with a securing-nut 12. The blocks B are each provided with upwardly-projecting prongs 13, which catch into and support the sack.
In use the sack is supported upon the prongs 13 of the blocks and the blocks raised to the desired positions upon the standard. The weight of the sack and blocks will cause the blocks to turn downward against the inner sides of the standards, gripping the standards and supporting the sack in any desired position. The looseness of the staples 11 will allow the blocks to be raised and lowered to any desired position.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A sack-holder of theclass described, comprising a base, a vertical standard having fixed support in one end of said base, a pair of cross-bars arranged one below and one above the opposite end of said base, bolts connecting said cross-bars and passing through longitudinal slots in the adjacent end of said base, a standard supported in said cross-bars and passing through a longitudinal open-end slot in the adjacent end of said base, for the purpose set forth, and sack-supporting means slidable upon said standards.
2. A sack-holder of the class described, comprising in combination a base, a pair of vertical cylindrical standards supported thereby, inwardly-curved sack-supporting blocks, U- shaped staples adjustably secured in said blocks and extending outwardly therefrom, said staples being secured to said standards and being large enough to allow the blocks to tilt downward suftlcien tly to bring the bottom edges of the blocks into gripping contact with the standards.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLARENCE W. OLlN.
