CHARLES H. N-IX, OF WAYNOKA, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
BUCKLE FOR STlRRUP-STRAPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,873, dated De ember 15, 1903. Application filed May 4,1903. Serial No.15 5.619. (No model.)
To all whom it may corwern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. NIX, acitizen of the United States, residing at Waynoka, in the county of Woods, Oklahoma Territory, have invented certain new and useful Iinprovements in Buckles for Stirrup-Straps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in buckles for stirrup-straps, whereby the strap may be easily lengthened or shortened; and it consists in the provision .ofa plate having loops along the oppositeedges thereof, through which the straps pass, andin the provision of two studs, which are positioned upon the plate intermediate the straps and spaced apart transversely of the strap and adapted to be inserted in holes in the strap, whereby movement of the strap with relation to the studs and loops is prevented, and consequently Wear upon the holes in the strap avoided.
The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my buckle shown as applied to a stirrup-strap. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View through the buckle and studs with the strap held thereto, and Fig. 3 is a detail View of the buckle itself.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a plate of metal which is substantially the width of a stirrup-supporting strap, which are commonly used by cowboys for supporting a stirrup from a saddle. Said plate has upon two of its opposite edges the loops A, extending the entire Width of the buckle, theouter margins of said loops being flush with theedges of theplate, while the inner margins of the ends of the loops are flush with the edges of the plate at right angles to the length of said loops, and intermediate said loops and spaced apart are studs B, which are fixed to the plate.
E designates a strap which is connected to the saddle and also to a stirrup, and the ends of the strap are brought through-said loops of the buckle, and the strap, which is provided with apertures adapted to register with said studs, is caught over the studs to hold the strap in an adjusted position, accordingly as it may be desired to raise or lower the stirrup.
From the foregoing it will be observed that by the provision of a buckle embodying the features of my invention the lacing which is commonly employed in adjusting stirrup-supporting straps is dispensed with and also the tearing incident to the adj usting of the straps when lacings are used, and by having the two studs which are spaced apart and engaging the apertures in the straps said studs will cooperate with the ends of the loops to hold said'straps securely in place, and eflicient means is provided for quickly and efficiently adjusting the strap. I
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.
A buckle for stirrups comprising a solid plate of metal having straps along two of the the ends of said plate, the inner margins of the ends of said loops being flush with the CHARLES H. NIX.
