' To all whom it may concern:
efficient furnace which ,may be used in the open airfor various purposes,'such as for washing, trying out fat,or any other purpose needingafurnace outside of a building.
With these ends in View this invention con-' sists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, the construction and operation will now be described in detail,referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through my improved furnace; Fig. 2, a plan view of the same; Fig. 3, a front elevation of the furnace.
A represents the main frame of .the furnace, which rests upon the ground and extends up above the grate-bars B. In plan view this frame is circular with an extension extending out in front of the same.
The body of the furnace is made of sheetiron, as represented at C, and is secured around the outside of the frame A, and therefore is of the same outline as the frame and extends up to the upper surface of the furnace. Therefore in plan view this body 0 is circular, except for an extension 0 extending out forward of the same. In' the front end of the extension 0 is formed the main door D and the ash-pit door E. Secured upon the rear of the body 0 is the smoke-flue-F, which extends'downward on an incline and merges into the body 0 at the lower end. The
upper end of the smoke-flue F is pressed into cured thereto by bolts or rivets is the upper plate G. This upper plate G is provided with a large circular opening above the circular flue F, and resting upon this flange and seportion-of the frame C,"andin this opening may be set a large kettle.
H, and this cover may be provided with a number of smaller openings, which may be covered by small covers or lids I. The plate G at the rear and above the smoke-flue F is provided with an opehing, over which is designed to be secured a smoke-pipe J. An opening K extends through the body G into the smoke-flue F, and the smoke-flue F is designed to be separate from the body of the furnace and riveted or screwed to the same in any suitable manner. It will thus be seen that by this construction of an open-air furnace I am able to manufacture the same at a comparatively small price, and yet provide a durable and efficient furnace which can be used for all purposes to which an open-air furnace is adapted. v

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is+- 1. In an open-air furnace, a main frame adapted to rest upon the ground and extend upward to a slight distance above the gratebars, grate-bars secured in said main frame, a sheet-iron body secured around the outside of the main frame and extending upward to the top of the furnace, a fire-door and an ashpit door provided at the forward end of the furnace, a smoke-flue secured to the rear of the furnace, the body provided with an opening communicating with the smoke-flue, an
resting upon the ground and extending upward a slight distance above the grate-bars, said main frame in cross-section being circular with a forward rectilinear extension, gratebars secured in the main frame, a body of sheet-iron secured around the main frame and extending upward a distance above the same, said body being of the same outline as the frame and thereby forming a rectilinear extension at the forward end, a fire-door and ash-pit door arranged at the front of the extension, a smoke-flue secured to the rear of the body, the body provided with an opening communicating with the smoke-flue, the upper edge of the body and the smoke-flue being provided with an upwardlyextending horizontal flange, a top plate resting upon the flange and covering the body and smoke-flue and secured to said flange, the top plate being provided with a large opening above the circular portion of the furnace, a removable cover adapted to fit in said opening, said plate also provided with an opening above the smoke-flue, a smoke-pipe adapted to fit over ing the main frame so as to form a forwardextending rectilinear portion, a fire-door and ash-pit door arranged at the forward end of the extension, a smoke-flue secured to the rear of the body, said smoke-flue being rectilinear at its upper surface and tapering downward and merging into the body at the lower end, the body of the furnace being provided with an opening into the smokeflue, an annular flange provided upon the upper edge of the body and the smoke-flue, a top plate resting upon said flange and covering the entire body and smoke-flue and being secured to said flange, said top plate being provided with a large circular opening above the circular portion of the furnace, a removable cover adapted to fit said opening, said cover being provided with a plurality of smaller openings, removable lids or covers adapted to fit said smaller openings, the top plate also provided with an opening above the smoke-flue, a smoke-pipe arranged around said opening for conveying away the smoke, as specified.
