Beit known that 1, JOHN E'. PALMATARY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, in the county of Newcastle and State of Delaware, have invented new and useful ImprovementsV in Bracket Attachments for Bath-Tubs, of which the'following is a specification. p Y

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in bracket attachments for bathtubs; and its object is to provide a device of this character which may be readily attached to tubs of dierent constructions and which serves to support a washbasin in convenient position.

A further object is to provide a bracket which may be readily swung out ofV normal position when it is not desired to use the same.

With the above and other objects in viewv the invention consists in providing a clamp adapted to be fastened upon'the edge of the tub and having a lug extending upward there from and integral therewith. Revolubly mounted upon this lug is a socket formed at one end of an arm. To the other end/of. this arm is ad j ustably secured a receptacle adapted to hold a basin in position upon the-arm.

The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination oi' parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in Which--L Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved bracket in position upon an old-style bathtub, the clamp and joint of said bracket being shown in. section. Fig. 2 is a section through a porcelain tub, showing a modified Fig. 3 is a detail view of said clamp. Fig. 4 is a similar View of the arm of the bracket. Fig. 5 is a central vertical section through the receptacle used in connection with the arm, and Fig. 6 is a plan view of said receptacle.

Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a plate having an inwardly-turned ange 2 at one end provided with a bearing f spring 2u. This spring is employed for the purpose of undoing the clasp readily applicable to tubs having flanges of various thickness and a downwardly-extending flange 3 at the opposite end. Within ilange 3 is mounted a plate 12.

Flange 2 is adapted to be placed in engagement with the outer edge of a bath-tub, as shown in Fig. 1, While plate-5 is adapted to be clamped against the inner surface of the tub by means of the screw 4. A-cylindrical lug 6 is formed integral with -plate 1, preferably at the center thereof, andhas its upper end tapered, as shown at 7. This lug is adapted to project into and form a bearing fora socket 8, which is formed at one end of the bracket-arm 9, extending laterally from said socket at an angle thereto. The other 4end of this arm has 'an aperture 10 therein, and this end is adapted to project between depending ears 11, preferably formed integral with and at the center'of a circular snpportingplate 12. A iange'l is arranged at the edge of this supportng-plate and is engaged by ihe ends of wires 14, which are curved upward and serve to supporta ring 15 in position in a plane above This ring is concentric with but of greater diameter than the plate and is of such size as to permit an ordinary washbasin to be placed therein and in position upon said plate 12. A binding-screw 16 extends through ears 11 and aperture 10, and by means thereof supporting-plate 12 can be locked at any desired angle to arm 9. Where a porcelain tub is used, it is of course necessary to employ a dif'- ferent form of clamp than that described hereinbefore. By referring to Fig. 2 it will be seen that a modified form of clamp may consist of a curved base-plate 16', having a felt covering 16a and so shaped as to lit snugly upon the edge of the tub and having an inwardly-curved flange 17, within which is mounted a set-screw 18, adapted to clamp the flange of the tub against the base-plate. A cylindrical lug 19 is arranged on this baseplate, as ordinarily, and` is also provided with a tapered end 20. Each of the lugs 6 and 19 is inclosedat its lower end by an integral collar 21, upon which the lower end of the socket 8 is adapted to rest. f Y

It will be seen that a bracket constructed in accordance with my invention can be readily attached to any form of tub, and the re.- ceptacle formed by supporting-plate 12, wires 14, and ring 15 can be quickly moved into position over or to one side of the tub. When ICC it is desired to remove the bracket, it is merely necessary to lift the socket 8 from lug 6 or 19. If it is desired to remove the clamping means, this can be done by unscrewing the set-screw 4 or 18.

In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.

Having thus described theinvention, what is claimed as new is- 1. In a bracket attachment of the character described, the combination of a clamp provided with a vertical lug formed integral therewith, a bracket-arm formed with a socket at one end adapted to set over and bear upon the vertical lug, a supporting-plate, provided with ears, and engaging the free end of the bracket-arm, means for securing the supporting-plate to the arm, and means carried by the supporting-plate to support a basin.

2. In abracket attachment of the character described, the combination of a clamp comprising a plate having an inwardly-turned ange, means carried by the flange for securing the plate upon one edge of a tub and a vertical lug formed integral with the plate, a bracket-arm formed with a socket at one end and adapted to set over and bear upon the vertical lug, a supporting-plate, ears depending therefrom and secured to the free end of the bracket-arm, a ring and connecting de- Vices to secure the ring to the supportingplate to form a receptacle to support a basin.

3. In a bracket attachment of the character described the combination of a clamp comprising a base-plate shaped to conform to the contour of the edge 0f a tub, an inwardly-extending flange at one end of the plate to engage the tub and provided with a bearingspring, a vertical lug on the plate, a bracketarm formed with a socket at one end and adapted to set over and bear upon the vertical lug, a supporting-plate, ears depending therefrom, means for adjustably clamping the ears to the arm, a flange upon the supporting-plate, a ring, and wires connecting the ring and iiange of the supporting-plate.

4. In a bracket attachment of the character described, the combination of a clamp comprising a plate shaped to conform to the contour of the edge of a tub, an inwardly-extending iiange at one end of the plate to engage the tub and provided with a bearingspring, a flange at the other end of the plate provided with a clamping-screw, and a vertical lug on the plate, a bracket-arm formed With a socket at one end and adapted to set over and bear upon the vertical lug, a supporting-plate, ears depending therefrom and adapted to receive the free end of the bracketarm,A means for adjustably clamping the ears to the arm, a ring, and wires connecting the ring and the supporting-plate.

5. In a bracket attachment of the character described, the combination of a clamp provided With a bearing-lug, a bracket-arm formed With a socket to set over and bear upon the bearing-lug, a supporting-plate engaging the free end of the bracket-arm means for securing the supporting-plate to the arm, and means carried by the supportingplate to support a basin.
