To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BAL'IUOE W. FERGU- soN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in'Soap- Holder Supports, of'whi'chthe following is a specification.

My invention relates to supports for soap holders, and has for its object the provision of a support for soap holders which may be readily located in convenient relation to wash basins, wash-stands, sinks or the like, and shall be held in place by the faucet or other plumbing connection; It has been customary heretofore to provide supports for.

Soap holders have heretofore been attached to faucets. themselves, but this has been accomplished by the provision of a clamp about the faucet. ,Such arrangement is trappy, the soap holder and its support are too readily removed and are likely to become looseand it frequently happens that;

the entire soap holder and fixture are removed and carried ofiespecially from publiclavatories, by sneak thieves.

It is therefore desirable that a soap holder support be provided which may be securely attached, which will not work loose, which, while itmay readily be put in place and removed with propertools, is not" so readlly taken off as that it is subject to appropriation and removal by sneak thieves, and

which is simple in structure and attractive in appearance and which presents the soap holder in the proper relation to the wash basin, wash-stand, sink or the like in connection with which it is to to b'e'used- All these and other desirable results are afforded by the support of the present invention in,

accordance with which the soap holder is shown as attached by a faucet or other plumbing connection, preferably by being provided with a flat connecting member fhaving an appropriate form, as, for example, having substantially the form of a ring or washer whichv may be secured in place beneath thebase of the plumbing con nection, as a faucet, and held thereby, such fastening member being provided with an arm preferably formed integral therewith which extends in the proper direction to support the soap holder in suitable relation and which is provided, oi'eferably at or near its opposite end, with appropriate means for connecting the soap holderv thereto. p In the accompanying drawing forming part of. this specification and wherein the samereference numerals are applied to the same parts throughout, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of one form of soap holder support embodying my invention. In said drawing the numeral 10 designates the preferred form of soap holder support generally; 11 indicates the means whereby it is supported from a faucet connection, and which consists, in the preferred form, ofa flat ring or of a washer placed on the faucet connection and held beneath the faucet base. 12 indicates an arm which is preferably formed integral with the ring or washerll and which may be of any form desirable in order to presentthe soap holder where it is wanted for use. 13 indicates the means'for' connecting the soap holder to the support 10and which may be of'any desired portion 14 in this instance made in the form of a ring having a threaded opening 15 therein, this beingthe preferred form for attachment for the particular kind of soap holder shown. The attaching device, I as stated, varies with different soap holders.

The attaching device, as the ring 14, is preferably formed integral with the arm 19, although this is not essential.

A faucet is shown at 16. The faucet shown is provided with a flaring base portion 17 and with a downwardly extending threaded connecting member or neck 18 extending through an opening 19 in the material of the stand, as is customary, and held in place thereon by means of a nut 20 and washer 21, the nut being screwed on the threaded stem 18, and connection being made to a water pipe on the lower end of the stem 18. In the form shown such connection is made by means of a union comprising members 22 and 23. This is a form of faucet and connection in common use, but my invention may, of course, be used with other forms of faucets and faucet connections than the particular form shown and described as well as with other permanent plumbing connections, such as the waste pipe connection or other connection having a shouldered attaching stem under which it may be received and held.

To attach my improved soap holder sup port, when it is put in place at the time of original installation, the holding member as the ring or washer 11 is simply slipped over the stem 18 before the faucet is put in place, and the arm 12 turned in the proper direction, and when the faucet is secured in place by screwing up the nut 20, the support is adjusted in proper angular relation, and when the faucet is finally secured in place the soap holder support is firmly locked in proper position, as will be understood.

If the faucet is already in place, it is a simple matter for a mechanic without any considerable amount of skill, and equipped with proper tools, to unscrew the faucet from its mounting and to insert the support in its proper place in the same manner as is done when the soap holder support .is fitted at the time the original plumbing installation is made. Such slight elevation of the faucet as may result from the insertion of the ring or washer 11 thereunder is ordinarily immaterial as the plumbing connections will readily give or yield for the very slight distance necessary to accommodate the ring or washer, but if this should be objectionable for any reason, it will be evident that any disturbance of the plumbing connections may readily be compensated for or avoided, as by placing a washer of the same thickness within the union connection,

or by removing the connecting member 28 and inserting another similar member very slightly longer than the one which is rc moved. v The preferred relation of the soap holder when supported. by my improved supporter to the usual form of basin with two faucets, is in a position substantially centrally of the basin and midway between the faucets, as shown in Fig. 3. This, however, is not essential as it may be differently located and may be used with other forms of washstands, basins, sinks and the like and with one or more faucets, and the soap holder and support may be turned to any desired posi tion, as, for example, to one side of a wash basin to occupy a position between two adjacent basins, and in various other relations as may be deemed desirable.

It will be seen that a soap holder support in accordance with my invention has all the advantages heretofore referred to, and that by its use the disadvantageous features which inhere in soap holders according to prior practice, are done away with.

It is to be understood that the form shown is for the purpose of illustrating my invention and making it clearly understood, and that I am not to be limited to the specific form shown, except as my invention is defined in my claims.

Having now described my invention, I claim:

1. In a soap holder support, the combination of a faucet or other permanent plumbing fixture having a shouldered base and a support for a soap holder comprising a flat ring adapted to be held in place under said shouldered base, an arm supported by said ring, and means on said arm for supporting a soap holder, substantially as set forth.

2. In a soap holder support, the combination of a permanently held plumbing fixture having a shouldered base and an attaching stem extending therefrom, with a support for a soap holder comprising a member adapted to be received on said stem and under said shoulder, an arm integral with said member, and means on the said arm for affording a support for a soap holder, substantially as set forth.
