Description

PATENTED NOV. 10, 1903.
C. F. LANCASTER.
HAIR SINGER.
APPLICATION FILED 0M. 20. 1902.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented November 10, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
HAIR-SINGER.
. SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 743,893, dated November 10, 1903.
Application filed October 20, 1902. Serial No. 127,955. (No modelj f (0Z7, whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CONRAD F. LANCASTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Liverpool, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hair-Singers, of which improvement the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to hair-singers and its object is to provide an improved form of hairsinger which is adapted to be heated by means of an electric current.
My invention consists of certain novel forms of details and construction.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference refer to like parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective of my device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough.
The numeral 1 indicates the handle of my device, which is preferably made of some insulating material, such as hard rubber. A hollow tube 2 extends therefrom and is provided on the outer end with the sleeve 3. A heating-coil t is held in the sleeve 3 and is connected with any suitable source of electric power by means of the cable 5 extending through the handle 1. A head 6 is attached to the sleeve by means of the thread 7 orany suitable means which may be preferred. The head 6 is provided with an inwardly-extending bar 8, which is held within the heatingcoil 4, and is in this manner heated when the current is turned on. A tool 9 is secured to the outer end of the head 6 and comprises a neck portion 10 with a broad extension 11 and angular teeth 12.
In operation my'device, being held by the handle, the current being turned on, is passed slowly over the hair, and the heating of the head in turn heats the tool 9, and the teeth 12 singe the hair as desired.
It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form of my invention without materially affecting theprinciples of thesame, and I do not, therefore, desire to confine myself to the exact form herein shown and described, but wish to include all such as properly come within the scope of my invention.
I have thus provided a new and improved form of hair-singer, which is well adapted for the purposes specified.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An electric singeing device comprising acylindrical sleeve 3, a heating-coil therein, electric-cable connections with said coil, a toolhandle, a threaded tube connecting the same with said sleeve, a head 6 having an integral bar extending through said heating-coil, said sleeve having threaded connection with the wall of the chambered portion of said head, and a tool secured to said head and provided with a flat widened portion with a serrated edge, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CONRAD F. LANCASTER.
In presence of- Lotus MOESER, M. HUNTER.
