To alZZ whom t may concern.-
* Be it known that we, IsAIAH RANNELs BROWN and LEwIs ALFRED BEoWN,-both citizens of the United States, and residents of Ebensburg, in the county of Cambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Flask-Clamp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in clamps for molding-tiasks, the object being to provide a clamp of simple construction that may be quickly adjusted to lock the ask members together.
We will describe a flask-clamp embodying our invention andvthen point out the 4novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the Iigures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a Hash-clamp embodying our invention. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are perspective views showing the three members of the clamp; and Fig. 5 is an elevation, partly in section, illustrating v the members as assembled.
Referring to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate, respectively, the upper and lower portions or members of a molding-dash. The clamp consists of two- members 3 and 4, designed to slide one upontthe other. One of the members, here shown as the member 4, has a longitudinal rib 5 on one side for engaging in a channel 6, formed'in the other This will permit the members toV member. slide one upon the other, but will prevent lateral sliding movement of one upon the other.'
The upper end of the member 3 is provided with a hook or angle portion 7 for engaging against the upper side of the iiask, while the lower end of the member 4 is provided with a hook or angle portion 8 for engaging against the under side of the flask. At one side the member 3 is provided with a notch 9, the walls of which areV formed by projections or lugs 10 1l. The member 4 is provided at its outer side with a series of teeth 12. The
locking device consists of a block 13, having an opening through which to receive the vertical portions of the clamp members. At one end the block 13 is provided with a cross-bar i 14, designed to engage in the notch 9, and at the other end is provided with a tooth-shaped cross-bar 15 for engaging with any one of the teeth 12. The space between the cross-bars, it will be noted, is sufcient to permit the block to turn downward at a slight angle from the upper section or member of the clamp, thus causing the parts to `be firmly locked together. In using the clamp the part 8 is to be engaged underneath the flask and the part 7 passed over the top of the flask. Then as the upper member or section of the clamp moves downward by gravity the locking-block will also move downward by gravity and engage with one of the teeth 12, preventing accidental longitudinal movement betweenthe members of the clamp.
Where it is desired to remove the clamp, the lower end of the block 13 is to be'lifted to disengage its tooth 15 from the tooth 12, with which it is engaged.
Obviously the clamp may be made of different lengths, and each clamp, as it consists of ,two sliding members, has aconsiderable range of adjustment for different sizes or depths of liasks.
, Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A iiask-clamp comprising two slidably-con nected members, one of said members having a longitudinal channel and the other having a rib for engaging in said channel, hook ends on said members, the upper one of said members being provided with outwardly-projecting lugs forming the walls of a notch, and the lower member being provided with a series of teeth, and a locking-block having an opening to receive the vertical portions of the two members, the said block having at one end a cross-bar for engaging removably in said notch, and at the other end a tooth-shaped cross-bar for engaging with any one of said teeth.
