Description
UNITED STATES Patented October 20, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS J. HUBBELL, OF LOS ANGELES', CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF THREE- ELEVENTI-IS TO H. O. NORRIS AND O. E. NORTON, OF LOS ANGELES,
CALIFORNIA.
REVERSIBLE PLOW-POINT,
srncrrrcnrron forming part of Letters Patent N0.'741,793, dated October 20, 1903.
Application filed July 14, 1902- Serial No. 115,568. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. HUBBELL, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to reversible plowpoints for use, preferably, on subsoil-plows; and its object is to double the wearing quality of a plow-point. I accomplish this object by means of the device herein described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the lower portion of a plow with my reversible point in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same with the shank of the plow removed.
In the drawings, A represents the shank of the plow, and B the side plates thereof, and O is my reversible point. This point consists of a triangular strip having recesses O- on both sides thereof for the reception of the rounded ends 13 B of the side bars or plates 13. It is likewise perforated for the reception of the screw-threaded bolt D, which passes through suitable openings in the side bars or plates and the point.
When the point becomes worn on the lower edge, it can be easily reversed and the upper unworn edge turned to the bottom after the removal of the bolt D, and the bolt can then be replaced and the side bars or plates screwed tightly thereon.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a plow, the combination with a shank, of independent side bars between which the shank is secured, and areversible plow-point received between the side bars.
2. The combination with a shank and independent side bars secured thereto, of a reversible plow-point received between the ends of the sidebars, the ends of the side bars adapted to be clamped firmly against the point.
3. The combination with a shank and independent side bars secured thereto, ofa reversible plow-point having recesses formed therein, the ends of the side bars adapted to be received in the recesses and means for clamping the ends of the side bars securely to the web of the plow-point.
4. In a plow, the combination with a pair of independent side bars, ofa reversible plowpoint having a pyramidal contour, and wholly contained therewithin, the plowpoint received between the side bars and means for securin g the pyramidal plow-point to the side bars.
5. In a plow, the combination with a stand ard and side bars secured thereto, of a plowpoint, having recesses formed therein conforming in shape to the ends of the side bars, the ends of the side bars being received in the recesses, the outer surfaces of the side bars being flush with the outer surfaces of the plow-point and means for removably securing the point to the side bars.
6. In a plow, the combination with side bars, of a plow-point having recessed sides,
THOMAS J. HUBBELL.
