TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Y
Be it. known that we, ANSN L. WARBURTON and HENBYYBENDIRpofFort Wayne, in the county of Allen, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Scroll-Ends for Spring- Bars, Ste., for Qsfrriages; and we do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to theaccompan'ying drawings, and to the letters of referencemarked thereon. In the drawingsi Figure 1 represents a sectional view.
lFigure 2 represents a plan view.
The nature of our intention consists in the construction of metallic scroll-ends for spring-barsand headblocks for carriages, Ste., as an article of manufacture. l l To enable others skilled in the arts to make' and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its construction and the use ofthe same.
A represents a metallic shell, which may be'c urved, so as to form any suitable design, for either Athe ends of the springbars or head-block. Into the cavity B of this shell the ends of the spring-bar or head-block are,` inserted, so as to allow the wood to comeflush with the metal. T he body-loop or other necessary irons are then` placed upon the upper'surface of the ears O, and the small bolts used for that purposeare inserted through the body-loop and ears C C', and the whole is electually secured inpositon, as seen in the drawings.
The advantages may be more fully appreciated when we take into account the fact that the carving on a buggy or carriage costs from four to ve dollars-in no case less, and in many cases much more-while by this method a. better and more elaborate style of work may bel securedfor about the same number of cents. .At the same time, instead of resting the hotly-loop on the wood of the spring-bar, and thus subjecting it to continued and rapid wear and liability to split, it rests on a firm metallicsuriface, and is therefore subject to none of these casualties. We regard the durability of the article as of greaterimportance than the question of mere cheapness, but when both of these are combined, the advantages are of the greatest importance.4v Y
What we claim asv nen", and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The metallic scroll-ends for spring-bars and head-blocks for carriages, the same being constructed and used in the manner and for the purpose substantially as speciled.
