CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 741,697, dated October 20, 1903.
Application filed February 27,1903. Serial No. 145,383. (No model.)
T at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT P. McGRAW, of McGraw, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corsets, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification. 1
My invention relates to corsets, and more particularly to the manner ofinclosing the corset-steels in their pockets, seaming the corset-body to said pockets, and covering said seams, so as to protect the same and strengthen the corset at this point where great strain and wear occur.
Heretofore it has been customary to stitch the steel in a pocket and stitch the pocket to the body. g
The object of the present invention is to inclose the steel in its pocket, unite it to the. body, and provide a protecting-cover and finish to the joint, all in such manner as to afford a union of great strength and durability at this critical point in the corsets construction.
With this object in view the invention consists in a corset-steel inclosed in a suitable pocket, a corset-body arranged so as to form Figure 1 is a .front elevation showing a corset-steel,its pocket, and the manner of uniting the same to the corset-body and covering and finishing the joint; and Fig. 2 is a cross-sec-- tion on line a: m, Fig. 1.
In said drawings, 1 is a corset-steel of usual or any suitable construction inclosed in a pocket 2, which pocket has one of its edges 3 folded over the other edge 4:, as shown. Ihe edge 5 of the body material 6 is then laid above the overlapped edges 3 and 4. of the pocket 2 and the covering-strip 7 placed over the whole, and a line of stitching 8 unites the overlapped edges of the pocket, the body 6, and'the covering-strip 7. A second line of stitching 9 unites the cover-strip 7 to the pocket 2 and may also, if desired, engage th edge5 of the body 6.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- In a corset, a strip of material folded to form a steel-pocket and having one of its rear edges folded over the other, a corset-body with its edge superimposed on the folded edges of the pocket, a cover-strip lyingover the edges of the body and pocket, and a line of stitches passing through all the parts.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT P. MCGRAW.
