IMPROVEMENT IN FOR TEA-KETTLES.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ISAAC DE'HAVEN, of the city and-county of Allegheny, in theState of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Tea-Kettles and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in pivoting the lid of a tea-kettle to the back lug for the handle, and providing said pivoted lid with a hinged joint, so that said lid may he turned sideways, turned down, or opened up, in, the manner and for the purpose hereinafter described,
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.- In the accompanying drawings, which form part of my specification- Figure 1' represents a longitudinal vertical section of my improved tea-kettle.

In the drawings, A represents the body of thekettle; B and B, the lugs, to which the handle 0 is attached; D represents the lid, which is pivoted to the lug B forthe handle 0, and'is provided with ahingedjoint at-point marked 0. By thus pivoting the lid, and providing it with the hinged joint, the lid may be turned sideways, as indicated by the dotted linesf, shown in fig. 2, o it may be opened up, or turned down, as indicated by the .dotted lines shown infig. L thereby combining all the advantages of the pivoted and the hinged lids in my improvement. 7
I wish it clearly understood that I do not claim, broadly, pivoting thelid to the body of a tea-kettle, nor do I claim hinging the lid to'the body of kettles, for both of these modes are well known.
I claim a lid 'provided with a hinged joint, and pivoted to.the body of a tea-kettle or other vessel, substantially as herein described, and for the purpose set forth. V
