UNITED STATES Patented September 29, 1903,
OTTO C. BEROHTOLD, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
M EAT-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 739,817, dated September 29, 1903.
Application filed February 14, 1902. Serial No. 94,027. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OTTO G. BERCHTOLD, a
- citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat-Cutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to nieat-cutters which are especially adapted for hashing or cutting into small particles meat for the purpose of allowing the same to be made up into sausages or cheese.
' The object of my invention is to construct a machine especially adapted to feed and cut the meats and at the same time be strong enough to resist breakage upon the introduction of particles of gristle or soft bone if the same should accidentally be fed into or through the machine.
Another object of my invention is the construction of a machine in such a manner that it may be easily cleansed and the parts of the cutter-roller being renewed as found necessary.
With the above objects in view my invention consists in the peculiar construction ofthe machine, whichwill be hereinafter fully set forth'and claimed.
In the drawingaFigure Tie a view in end elevation of a machine embodying my invention. taken on line a: a, Fig. Let the machine. Figs. III and IV illustrate details of construction not fully illustrated in Figs. I and II.
A represents a table upon which my device is mounted. This table or platform is approximately rectangular and comprises front, rear, and end rails formed integral with each other. Tothe under faces of the rear and end rails is secured in any desired manner the chute E.
B represents the cutter-roller, which is composed of a series of cutter disk knives b b, which are mounted upon an arbor in a manner more clearly illustrated in Fig. III.
Fig. II is a view in vertical section 0 represents a roller, which is formed of two parts--viz., an inner part or mandrel part composed of steel, iron, or like material and a covering 0', of soft metal, such as Babbitt metal or'other analogous composition, adapted to form a firm resistance, but at the same time not injuring the cutter-knives when the same are revolved in close contact therewith, as is essential in this class or type of machine.
The casing c of the roll 0 may be removed at pleasure and replaced when desired without the necessity of'renewing the entire roller mechanism. This roller 0 is' mounted upon the platform 'A of a framework A in an adj ustable bearing 0, which is duplicated at both sides. This bearing 0 is slidably connected tothe platform A and is adjusted in relation to the roller B by means of set-screws 0 which pass through lugs or projections 0 secured to the platform A. This keeps the rollers B andO in relative position in relation to each other.
D represents a comb or cleaner-plate, the teeth (1 of which pass between the disks b and close up to themandrel portion of the roller B, thus clearing: the said roller and directing the cut portion of the meat into a chute E, from whence they drop into any suitable container. The comb or cleaner D is arranged directly above the inner-portion of the chute E and is made adjustable inrelation to the roller B by meausof a suitable clamping deviceF, which is secured to the table A.
The clamping device F comprises a bar which is formed with apertures alining with openings in the cleaner-plates and through which project into threaded openings in the near end rail of the platform set-screws.
' What I claim is In combination with the open pl" tforxn and i the rollers journaled therein, one of'said rollers being provided with disk-shaped knives, said platform being formed with spaced-apart screw threaded openings, "a cleaner plate formed with a plurality of fingers projecting between the knives of the said roller, the
body portion'of the said plate being formed with elongated openings alining with the openings of the said platform, and a clamping device comprising an overlapping bar formed with openings alining with the open- Signed at Cleveland, in the County of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, this 28th day of J anuary, 1902.
