SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 739,543 dated September 22, 1903.
V I Application filed April 21,1908. Serial No. 153,674. (No model.)
T 0% whom, it may concern.
Be it known thatI, PETER HAMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oaddo, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
The chief intention of the present invention is to combine witha stove of the type constructed for burning wood and kindred light fuel means for preventing scorching or burning of the floor, carpet, or other covering immediately below the stove and also to provide novel attaching means for securing the protector to the stove as well as to combine with the heater unique means for regulating the drafts, whereby the fire may be caused to burn slow or brisk, according as desired.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledgeofthe details of construction of the means for-edecting the result reference is to be had to the following description anddrawings hereto attached.
While the essential and characteristic features of the invention are susceptible of modification, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- 1 Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove embodying the invention. Fig. .2 is a detail view in perspective of the protector. .Fig. 3 is a detail section of an end portion of the stove, showing the draft-regulatingmeans and the manner of attaching the protector and stove-legs to the heater.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The stove or heater is essentially of sheet metal and may be of any size and form, being preferably oval in horizontal section and provided with a collar 1 for attachment there- "to of the smoke-pipe and a cap-closed opening 2, through which the fuel is supplied and the ashes and embers withdrawn. A duct or tube is provided at one end of the stove and provides for admission of air to support combustiom This duct or tube is preferably formed of a sheet-metal box 3, riveted or otherwise secured to the body of the stove and closed at its ends and sides, the side ad-' jacent to the stove being closed by the latter. Opening 4 in the stove-body establishes com munication between the lower end of the tube or duct and the interior of the stove, and a damper-controlled opening 5 is formed in the upperend of the part 3 to admit air in regu lated quantity for causing the fire to burn more or less brisk. The air is heated in its passage through the part 3 before entering the stove andis therefore in better condition for promoting combustion.
The protector 6 is a metal plate and is provided with spring-hangers 7, having their upper ends inwardly bent, as shown at 8, to pass into keepers 9, secured to the bottom of the stove. The protector is preferably constructed of sheet metal and is reinforced by having its outer edge wired. The hangers- The stove-legs 10' have their upper ends bent, as shown at 11, to enter keepers 9 and are secured in place by wedges or shims 12, which are pressed into the keepers to insure binding of the bent ends 11 and 8. The stovelegs 10 are preferably constructed of stout sheet metal. Hence the necessity for pro viding wedges 1.2 for securance of the legs to the stove when the parts are assembled.
The protector 5, besides forming ashield for the surface immediately below the heater, also provides a shelf upon which articles maybe placed for warming food or anything desired to be heated. It also forms a rest for the feet when it is required to warm same.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In combination, a stove provided upon In the preferable construction its bottom with keepers, a protector, hangers applied to the protectorand having their upper ends bent to enter said keepers, and stovelegs having their upper bent .ends inserted thehangers, and wedges pressedinto the keep to into the same keepers with the bent ends of the hangers, substantially as set forth.
2. In combination, a stove provided upon ers for securing the stove-legs and hangers thereto, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature its bottom with keepers, a protector, hangers in presence of two witnesses.
applied to the protector and having their upper ends bent to enter said keepers, stovelegs having their upper bent ends inserted into the same keepers with the bent ends of PETER HAMER. [L. s.]
