ROAD SPOOL. APPLIOATION FILED NOV. 20, 1902..
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented September 22,1903.
PATENT "OFFICE.
ROAD-SPOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 739,294, dated September 22, 1903. Application filed November 20, 1902. Serial No. 132,080 (No model.)
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. CORBETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in RoadSpools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to road-spools; and it consists in certain improvements-in the construction thereof, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
The invention is illustrated in the acconl panying drawings, as follows:
' which forms a cavity a and in'closes the basin o. The walls of the lip a extend below the walls of the basin 0'. The spool has the cavity a, to which leads the oilopening a.
This cavity is preferably filled with waste or other material. In order to prevent the cable from going underneath the edge of thespool, the baseG is provided with the cable-guard c, which extends above and in close proximity to the edge of the lip a The outer edge of the base is provided with the perforation 0, through which bolts may be passed to secure it to a support.
These spools are ordinarily used where a wire cable is used for hauling. They are particularly designed for guiding the cable where logs are hauled in this manner through the woods.
What I claim as new is- 1. In a road-spool the combination with a base having an overflow-basin on its upper face and a cable-guard 0 a journal-pin extending from said base; and a spool-sheave journaled on said pin, said sheave having an mass of the sheave and being in com1nunication with the journaled opening within the sheave; said sheave also having an annular lip a extending over and below the basin 0,
and within and below the edge of the cableguard 0 In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. CORBETT.
