Be it known that; I, .ABRAHAM LUTZ, of Orangeville, in the county of Stephenson, 'and Stute oi' illinois,

have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machines-for Sewing Hoops; and I do hereby declare that the Y following is n full, clear, and ex-ect desription'thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and l use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming parlJ of this specification.

This invention relates to an improvednrrangement of springs and hearings in machines .for sewing hoops from poles, whereby the pole is more easily end securely held in its proper position, while being fed to the 4 sew, end is also applicable-to ordinary sawing. In the accompanying drawings-'- Figure l is en end view of my improvement, showing the' springs and bearings from the direction of the''eed.A

A is the saw, to which a vertical motion is given by the handle of the erank- B, which carriesvthe spur wheel tlzing into the pinion e, at the end of4 the crank C, or by any other of the well-known mechanicalK arrangements for thet purpose. D is the framework of the saw A, working in the vertical grooves or guides d ol, in the outer framework or casing Y Y, in which all the perks of my improved sawing-*machine nre'disposed.,

E is si stationary benringrirmly secured to the outer framework or casing Y Y. e is a pin, set inthe bearing E, and on which the pole or beam restswhen'being fed to the sew A. F is a strong spring, 'attached nl: one end to the framework Y, having, et its free extremiily, bearings ff, in which n solid grooved wheel, G, is jour# nailed. The heed, c', of the fixed bearing E, is concave, end the pole resting on the pin @,'is received between the concave head e' ofrhe henri-ng E and the4 groove of the solid wheel G. Another strong bent spring H is attached to' the cross-piece I, and presses the pole downnpon the pin e by-the concave arm Zi, et its free extremity. u

Myfimproved sewing-machine may also be used for sewing square timber, end when so employed, the parte e', Lend g, instead of presenting o. concave surface to the timber, will be straight, and furnished Vwith .projecting lips on each side to clninp the timber.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The construction end arrangement of the inclined fixed bearing E, having the pin e and concave head e', spring F, provided with the horizontal roller G, and bent spring H, with concave erm b, aslierein shown and described for the purpose specified.
