ROBERT SIDNEY OLIVER, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
CORSET.
SIPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 734,083, dated July 21, 1903.
Application filed MarchSl, 1903.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LROBERT SIDNEY OLIVER,
a subject of the King of Great Britain and "persons of stout build, where the lower part of the abdomen protrudes in an unsightly manner and causes the corset to be forced upward, the object of the present invention being to provide simple attachments for preventing the corset rising and to keep the lower part of the same closelyiagainst the abdomen and in such a manner as to afford an efficient support, with the result that a far more graceful appearance of the figure is obtained.
In carrying this invention into practical efiect a suitably-shaped band is secured at each side of the lower part of the front of the corset, and these bands are thenpassed around the back of the upper legs or thighs and between the legs and are fastened to the middle of the front of the corset, and after being drawn sufficiently tight their extremities are secured by means of suitable buckles, clips, or the like.
In order that this invention may be fully understood, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows one of the bands or attachments detached from the corset. Fig. 2 shows one of the loops through which the extremities of the bands are passed, and Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic view showing the manner in which the bands are employed.
-Each band or attachment comprises end piece a b and a comparatively wide interme- Serial No. 150,364. (No model.)
diate or central part c, and these parts may be formed in separate pieces suitably secured from curling up when in use one or more suitable stiifening-ribs, such as 01, may be secured thereto.
7 In practice the extremity a of each band or attachment is sewed or suitably secured to the middle of the lower part of the front of the corset. A loop or link f is secured to the lower part of the corset at each side of its middle or center portion. The bands or attachments are then passed rearward between the limbs and around the back of the upper legs or thighs and their extremities b then brought to the front and passed through the loops f, through which they are drawn until sufficiently tight, and the extremities are then finally secured by clips or buckles, such as e.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by 'Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with a corset, of two bands each having its end portions connected with the middle and lower part of the front of the corset and arranged to engage with the respective limbs of the wearer.
2. The combination, with a corset, of two bands each having its end portions connected to the middle and lower part of the front of the corset and arranged to engage with the respective limbs of the wearer, said hands being provided with transverse stiifeners at their rear parts.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT SIDNEY OLIVER. Witnesses:
GODFREY SHEPHERD, CHAS. LEASON.
