Lam Patent No. 73,313, dated January 14, 1868.
IMPROVED ABBLE-SLIOEB.
fiilp fitiphnle marsh in in time with pa e amt making part at tip smut.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, H. NORTON and J. S. .B. Nohwolv, of Farmington, in the county of Franklin, and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apple-Slicers; and we do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I
i The nature of our invention consists in certain improvements upon theinvention patented by us, May 18, 1858, and numbered 20,295, said improvements being in the form of the knives,'and the addition of a corer, and in the general simplification.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its constructionand use. Inthe drawings- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of our apple-slicer.
Figure 2 is a longitudinalsection of the same.
A B represent a frame, made of any suitable material, in which the carrier C slides, being operated by the handle D. H H H are knives, made in the form shown in fig. 1, and attached in pairs to the frame, as
shown; the pair H H being set further apart than the pair H H, while the pair H H" are nearer together than H H, so that if an apple is pushed through, each set of knives will take oil a slice.. L L, fig. 1, are two straight knives, extending from the frame to the eorer K; the object of these knives, L L, being to divide in two parts that part ofthe apple that has passed through the knives H H H, and is not taken by the .corer K. The oorer K is a. hollow tube, through which the core of the apple is pushed.
To use our apparatus we proceed as follows The slide 0 is drawn away from the knives, the. apple to be sliced is placed upon the pin E, and then pushed against the knives, each pair of which takes off a slice, leaving a. small part which comes in contact with the knives L L and the corer K; this part is separated from the core by the tube K, and split in two parts by the knives L L.
Having thus described our invention, ,we will proceed to set fbrth our claims.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination as well as the arrangement of the eorer K with the knives L L and H H H, substan tially as described and for the purpose set forth.
H. NORTON, J- S. B. NORTON.
