ATENT FFICE.
LAM P-BU RN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 733,012, dated July 7, 1903.
Application filed October 6, 1902. Serial No. 126,150. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. COMPTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Burners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,olear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to lamp-burners, and particularly to that kind thereof in which a secondary or superior glass cone is used above Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a top view of the cap alone.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 in dicates the perforated base-plate of the burner, through which the wick-tube 7 extends and to which the cap Sis hinged. The base-plate is extended, as at 6 to form the gallery for the chimney. The cap 8 is formed with an annular rim 8 to support the glass cone 9, which may be formed in 'two or more pieces to allow for expansion. The rim is formed by bending up the lower edge of the cap, and the cap and rim may be stamped from one piece, or the rim may be attached to the cap by tongue-and-slot or other suitable connection adapted to the material and construe tion. In the drawings the cap and rim are indicated as formed as one piece. At the bend or joint of the cap with the rim openand requires no independent support. Air
is fed to the flame inside the cap through the perforations in the base-plate, between the cap and the cone through the openings 8, and above the cone through the outer perforations in the gallery. The cap can be made at very little greater cost than an ordinary cap and a simple and cheap bu rner is formed.
What I claim is In a lam p-burner, the combination with the perforated base extended outwardly to form a chimney-gallery, and the wick-tube, of the cap and the glass cone, the cap having an upturned annular rim at the outer edge, on top ofwhich the cone rests, and openings in the rim admitting air between the cap and cone, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H. COMPTON;
Witnesses: l l
NELLIE FELTSKOG, H. G. BATCHELOR.
