To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN R. ROAOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cale, in the county of Martin and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Horse-Collar Pad, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is an improved breast-pad for produce a pad which can be secured to the `harnessand which will not press upon the windpipe or jugular vein and which will not cause the hair to fall off on the parts covered by the pads. These pads are especially designcdfor use in heavy pulling.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View showing the practical use of my pad. Fig. 2 is a detail View of the outer ing the inner side of a pad. Fig. 4 is a detail View of a modification, part of the pad being shown in section. Fig. 5 shows detail views of the preferred means of securing the pad to the harness. Fig. Gis a detail sectional view showing the pad locked to the breast-strap. Fig. 7 is a cross-section through the pad.

In carrying out my invention I employ pads A, designed to be secured to the breast-strap B, as indicated in Fig. 1. These pads are formed with a straight outer face A and a convex inner face A2, which may be of soft or enameled leather, as preferredmr any desired material. A metal plate A3 lies under the surface A', and between the plate and the surface Azis any suitable Asoft packing material A4. The two sides ofthe pad are stitched together, as shown at A5.- A plate C, having a spring-tongue C formed at one end, the ends of the plate on either side of the tongue being bent over to form eyes C2, is riveted to the plate A3 on one side of Vthe pad,'while a similar plate Cs is adj ustably secured to the pad, the surface A' being cut away. bolt G5 C6. Locking members D, bent at D' and having trunnions D2, are secured to the plates, the trunnions engaging the eyes C2, which serve as bearings for them. A pin E projects outwardly from the central portion of the surface A.

In Fig. 4 I have shownb'ent wire members F revolubly secured in the plate A3 and adaptd ed to have their free ends turned downward over the outer surface of the breast-strap.

In use my pads are secured one upon either side of the horse on the breast-strap where the tensioned strap would bear most in heavy pulling. The pin E is inserted in a perfora tion formedin the breast-strap and the members D are bent downover the strap B. The slot C4 allows vertical adjustment of the plate C3, so that both members D can be bent over the strap and theV pad properly adjusted atvario'us inclinations of the breast-strap.

Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A pad of the kind described comprising a piece of leather having'a Afiat face, an outwardly-curved piece of leather, the edges of the two pieces being secured together, a flat metallic plate secured against the inner face of the flat piece, packing material between the plate and the curved piece of leather, and
