The turning of shaft 13 turns worm 11 and transmits motion to worm-wheel 9 and journal 10, forming an integral portion thereof, and thereby swings arm 26 and, by means of link 29, connecting the outer end of the arm with the shutter, pulls the shutter to the position desired, where it is effectually locked until one end of the cord 20 is again drawn downward.
It will be seen that by hinging arm 26 to bracket 25 it enables the arm to be disconnected from the shutter at will by simply removing pin 30, thus permitting the shutter to be taken off its hinges and replaced, as oocasion may require. This hinged connection also insures the arms perfect operation regardless of the different are the shutter may move owing to its becoming sagged or from any other cause it does not move concentric with journal 10.
In Fig. 5 I have shown the shaft 13 extending through the trim and having drum 17 secured on its protruding end. A double pulley is secured to the trim by a staple 3i and the cord 20 passed over the pulley, the operation being precisely as above explained.
A great man y slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arran gem ent of parts described without departing from my invention; and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my inventiou.
Havin g fully described my inven tion, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a shutter-worker, the combination with a two-part casing constructed with an elongated sleeve, a worm-wheel and worm mounted in said casing, the worm being secured to one end of a shaft, a tubular shaftbearing adjust-ably secured in said elongated sleeve, a winding-pulley attached to the outer end of the worm-shaft, and means for impart ing motion from the worm-wheel to a shutter, substantially as set forth.
, 2. In a shutter-Worker, the combination with a worm-wheel to operate a shutter, of a shaft projecting into the Window-casing, a Worm on the shaft to engage the worm-wheel, a double drum on the shaft having its intermediate bead or flange notched, and a single cord passed into said notch and wound in opposite directions around the drum.
In a shutterworker, a metal casing adapted to have a worm-wheel and worm mounted therein, said casing made in two sections, one section being formed with a shoulder, an elongated sleeve provided with exterior longitudinal ribs, and with a perforated flange, substantially as set forth.
4. In a shutter-Worker, the combination with a casing provided with an elongated sleeve, a tubular shaft-bearing adjustable endwise in said sleeve, of a worm shaft mounted in the tubular shaft-bearing and a pulley attached to one end of the shaft, substantially as set forth.
5. In a sluitter-worker, the combination with a wheel, means for rotating it, and a bracket secured to the axle of the wheel, of an arm hinged at one end to the bracket and connected at its outer end to a shutter, substantially as set forth.
6. In a shutter-worker, the combination with a wheel mounted. to rotate and means for turning the same, of a bracket connected with said wheel, an arm hinged to said bracket, a lug on the outer end of the arm, a link pivotally connected at one end to a shutter, and having a hole in its opposite end to receive said lug, and a pin to lock the lug in the link.
