Description
H. B. LUM. Improvement ifn Blind-.Slat Operators. No. 119,625. Patentedocf. 3.1871.
Wt y /wm www .fd l I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY B. LUM, OF SANDUSKY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT lN BLIND- SLAT OPERATORS.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,625, dated October 3, 1871.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY B. LUM, of Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Blind-Slat Operator, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification. v
My invention relates to a new and improved blind-slat operator; and it consists in an oscillating cranked rod passing through the windowframe. and connecting` with an arm or crank on one of the slats in such manner that it will not interfere with the opening and closing of the blinds and will operate the slats in whatever position the blinds may be, whether open or closed or partly open.
Figure l is a partial elevation of a blind and window-frame provided with my improved operators, the blind being partly open. Fig'. 2 is a horizontal section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the window-blind, and B the frame. One
of the slats C has an arm, D, attached to its pivot, or a strong metal pivot which is applied to it for the purpose7 said arm pointing toward the vertical line in which the pivots are, on which the blind swings, and said arm has an elongated hole or slot in its outer end. E is a rod extending through the window Afrom the inside, where it is provided with a handle, F, to the outside G, where it is bent along the Wall of the building to the point H opposite the pintle of the hinge or the vertical line thereof 5 from said point it is bent around the said line in a true curve, passing through the slot of arm D. This admits of turning the blind readily and yet having the rod pass through the arm in whatever position the blind may be, so that the arm D and the slats will be actuated by the rod E when turned.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the slotted arm D connected to the slats, of the bent rod E passing through the windowframe, and otherwise arranged, substantially as specified.
Witnesses: HENRY B. LUM.
