1 eNow-PLow;
' SPEGIFIOATION for'rnngpart of Letters Patent No. 731,419, dated June 16, 190B. Y Application lerl January 20, 1903, Serial No. 139,857. No model.)
To' 'all when/ttt may concern: Beit known that I, CHARLES a citizen ofi the United States, residing at Perry, inthe county of Dallas and State of Iowa, have invented a new and: useful Machine for Cleaning theSnow'from Sidewalks,
f of which the following-is a specification.
j IO
1 on the ground by Myebje'ct is'to provide an adjustable snow' plow adapted for manual operation for cleaning sidewalks and making paths through s now simply pushing the plow in a handle.
frontof the operator by means of 'My invention consists in the construction and lcombination of parts, as hereinafter set forth,.pointed o'utin my claims,and illustratedin the accompanying drawings, vin
whichl Figure lis a top view of the plow and shows the positions of the adjustable 'parts relative to the frame and handle. Fig. 2 is a'longitudinal central sectional vie-w that shows the inside face of one of the adjustable wings of the plow. Fig. 3 is a. Atransverse sectional view that shows the mechanism for. retaining the adjustable wings in' ixed positions relative to eachother and the frame and r beam to which they are hinged. Fig. 4 is a its advance.
i vided with a cross-head perspective view of the complete invention in position as required for practical use. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view of the mechanism for adjusting the plow for' making paths differing in `wdthand directing the movement of snow relative to the line of advance.
The numeral 10 designates a plow-beam, and 12 and 13 are wings in the form of dat boards hinged to the' front end ofthe beam in sucha manner that they can be adj usted relative to each other and the beam for regulating the width of the plow and also as req'uired for pushing snow laterally to either one of the sides ofthe plow and the line of The outside lower edges of the wings are reinforced by Scrapers 14, (preferably made of meta1,) xed thereto, and to the inside faces of To the beam IOis fixed a handle 16, pro- 17 at its top, and to the handle and beam is ixed a metal frame 1S. A locking device that consists of a curved metal rack 19, that -has` Vflanges at its. sides and thmmner flange provided with ia'p'l'u- 1 rality of notches, is )L .illimorrg4 traine 18.
their rear ends are -xed. -piecesof board 15 to strengthen them.
slidably connected with the frame 18, and a screw 20, extended down Athrough the handle 16, is seated in the horizontal portion of the traine Aand adapted to :enter the notches in the c urved flange, as rethe slidable rack 19 to the Curved rods 2l 4and 22 are fixed quired to lock to the wings 12 and 13 and extendedthrough apertures in theends of rack 19 and provided with hookson their ends to enter apertures in the'bottom of the slidable rack in lsuch a manner that the wings and rods can be moved in and out relative to. the beam 10 and slidvable rack 19, as required to change the angies of the wings relative to each other and the beam. To retainthe rods in fixed positions inthe slidable rack, detente 23 and 24, that are-bifurcated to stride the rods, are adjustably connected withv the rack by means of pins 25 in such a manner that they will prevent the hooks on the ends of the rods from rising outof the apertures in which they are inserted, as required to hold the wings 12 and 13 in dxed positions when the plow is in operation. V
Having thus described the purpose of my invention and its construction and operation, the practical operation and utility thereof willbe readily understood by persons familiar with the art to which it pertains, and
What I claim as new, by Letters Patent,is-
1. In a snow-plow, two wingsand a plowbeam jointly hinged together at their fr'ont ends, a handle fixed to the beam, a frame iixed to the `handle and beam to support a slidable rack,- a curved slidable rack and means for locking the rack, arranged and combined to operate in themanner set forth for the purposes stated.
2. In a snow-plow, two'wings'and a beam jointly hinged .together at their front ends, a' handle fixed to the beam, a frame fixed to the handle and beam for supporting a slidable rack, a rack '1n said farne and a screw extend` ed through an aperture in the handle and seated in the frame to engage theslidable rack, arranged and combined to operate in the manner set forth for the purposes stated.
3. In a snow-plow, two wings and a beam jointly hinged together at their front ends, a handle fixed to the beam, a frame xed to and desire to secure IOO the handle and beam for supporting a, slidebie rack, a reckin said frame and e screw extended through :tu aperture in the handle and seated in the frame to engage the slidabie rack, curved rods fixed to the said hinged Wings and extended through the ends of the rack and provided With hooks on their ends to enter apertures in the rack, arranged and combined to operate inthe manner set forth for the purposes stated.
4. Inv e snow-plow, two Wingsl and a, beam handle end beam for supporting :t siideble rack, a, rack in seidy frame and e screw extended through an aperture in the handle andv seatedin the frame to engage the slidable rack, curved rods xed to thesaid hinged wings and extended through the ends ofthe rack and provided with hooks on their ends z: to enter apertures in the rack and ineens for fastening the rods to the mok, arranged and combined to operate iu the meuner- Set forth. for the purposes stated.,
I in testimony whereof ii have signed my j nameto this speoiestion. in the presenee of two subscribing Witnesses. jointly hinged together at their front ends, a y handle fixed to the beam, e frame xed to the I o. n Wit-now 1li/Witnesses:-
