SCAFFOLD-BRACKET.

To 0.2% whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BYRON B. BROWN, of the city of Quincy, Adams county, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scaifold-Brackets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to certain improvements in sca'ifold-brackets.
It consists in certain details of construction to be more fully described'in the accompany ing drawings, in which V Figure 1 is a side perspective showing my invention in use upon aslopingroof-surface. Fig. 2 is a top perspective view of my invention. Fig. 3 is a side plan view of my invention applied to a ladder.
Myinvention is applicable to any use in which scan'olding is desired. It may be applied to walls or to roofs of any angle.
The bracket Ais cast in the form shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 and is provided with recessed notches B, the notches being arranged in series, having their longitudinal surfaces in alinement, so that they are adapted to support and firmly hold a seat-board. The bracket A is provided with bearing-surfaces O and D, which surfaces may be perforated in any manner desired for the purpose of attaching the brackets to the surface upon which work is to he performed.
In the form which I have shown the bear-' ing-surface D contains circular perforations E and E and a transverse opening F. When the bracket is intended to be used upon asurface substantially vertical, it may be attached by means of screws or nails driven through the openings E and E. The 'bracketAis also provided with an opening Gin its vertical flange H, in which opening a link I is inserted,
When itis desired to fix the bracket upon a sloping surface, a metal strip J is looped about the link I, inserted through the slot F, and nailed or otherwise fastened to the roof.
When. it'is desired to attach my bracket to a ladder, a flat hook K is bolted by bolts L' through the openings E and E, so that the upper end of the bracket is hooked upon a rung of the ladder, and the lower end of the bracket is held in place by a lower rung or rungs.
It is manifest that my invention may be embodied in a casting ofany desirable weight,
thickness, and form, provided that it is given a suitable flanged bearing-surface, means of attaching the bracket to the surface upon which the work is to be performed, and that the recessed notches be not less than two in number and arranged substantially in alinement, so as to receive and timely hold a seatboard in a substantially horizontal position regardless of the degree of inclination of the surface to which the bracket is attached. v
My bracket is intended to be used in series, and any number may be employed in supporting a single seat-board, depending upon the length of the seat-board employed and the rigidity with which it is desired to be held.
By means of my invention I have provided a scaffold-bracket of great strength, rigidity, lightness, and economy and one that is easily and quickly placed in position or taken down.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A scaffold-bracket, provided with fiat bearingsurfaces, and a recessed edge provided with notches for the reception of a seatboard, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
2. A scafiold bracket, provided with fiat bearing surfaces, and a series of notches adapted to receive and hold a seat-board, its flat bearing-surfaces being perforated for purposes of attachment, substantially as speci= fied.
3. .A scaffold bracket, provided with fiat bearing-surfaces, a series of notches adapted to-receive and hold the seat-board, and a hook whereby the'tb'rac'ket may beheld in position uponthe ladder, substantially as set forth.
4. A scaffold-bracket, provided with a flat bearing-surface, a series of notches adapted to receive and hold a seat-board, a flat metal strip passing through a transverse opening in the bearing side of the bracket, and a link fastened to the bracket and securing the end of the metal loop, substantially as and for the purposes specified. I
