ROOF-BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 591 ,7'72, dated October 12, 1897. Application filed July 13,1897. Serial No. 644,467. (No model.)
To (l/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J ACOB MATTER, of Lincoln, in the county of Placer and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roof-Brackets; and
I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel construction in a roof-bracket for the use of painters, carpenters, and others upon slanting roofs, the object being to provide an extremely inexpensive and convenient device of this character.
The invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings,formin g part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a roof to which this bracket is secured, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the bracket in detail.
Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates a sheet-metal shingle having openings 2, by means of which it can be secured to a roof or the like. This shingle can be secured by nails and after the manner of an ordinary shingle, or in any other way found most convenient. On the outer face of the shingle and near the lower end thereof'is a bracket 3, consisting of a piece of bent sheet metal having a flange 4 at its lower end, that is se cured fiat upon the outer face of the shingle, and above the flange 4 an outwardly-extending portion 5, from which extends a plate 6, which at its upper end is secured to the shingle in the manner shown. This plate 6 is provided with an opening 7 to receive the end of a scaffold-hook, While at the upper end of the plate 6 is an outwardly-extending bracket 7 consisting of a horizontal piece 8 and the upright plate 9. In use this shingle is secured to the roof as described, while the hooks for a scafiold can be secured within the opening 7, or suitable scantling may be placed upon the brackets 7 i, by means of which a scaffold for the use of carpenters upon the roof may be constructed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A roof-bracket consisting of a shingle 1 provided with a plate 6 secured to the lower portion thereof and provided with an opening 7 and a bracket '7 at the upper end of said plate.
