GEORGE F. CONNER, OF PORT HURON, MICHIGAN.
DEFLECTOR FOR STACKERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 727,093, dated May 5, 1903. Application filed January 2, 1903. Serial No. 137,492. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. OONNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Port Huron, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Deflectors for Stackers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification. 4
This invention relates to deflectors for stackers, and especially to means for directing the blast from a pneumatic conveyer in any direction, so as to facilitate the process of stacking the discharged straw, the.
The invention consists in the matters hereinat'ter set forth, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a deflector embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation showing the parts turned or raised inposition.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the main arm of a pneumatic conveyer or elevator. angle desired. Said arm A is cylindrical, and a longitudinal slot a is formed in its wall extending a considerable distance from its end. Said slotted end is surrounded by a clamp or band B, whose ends 19 project outwardly and are connected by a bolt or screw b, by which they may conveniently be drawn together.
A deflector O is rotatively secured in the outer or slotted end of the arm A. Said deflector comprises a plurality of segments articulately connected to a cylinder 0, adapted to telescope with and be revolved within the slotted end a of the conveyer-arm A. The outer end 0 of said cylinder 0 is cut off at an angle oblique to the cylinder-axis and is provided with a flanged collar 0 having a retaininglip 0 Said collar 0 interlocks with the flanged oblique end a of the middle section 0 of the deflector. The plane of the outer end 0 of the said middle section is oblique to the axis of rotation of the section and to the plane of the end 0 Said outer end 0 is provided with aflanged collar 0 similar to the collar 0 on the cylinder 0, thereby affording interlocking rotative engagement with the flanged end 0 of a hood c The'outer end of said hood may or may not be cut so as to be oblique to the hood-axis. Each section of the deflector is provided with handles Said arm can be raised and held at any D, by which they may be turned in any rela* tive position desired. By rotating the parts of the deflector the blast from the conveyer may be directed as desired and the contents discharged to suit the operator, the obliquity of the connecting flanges to the axes of rotation throwing the cylinders into different angular relations.
There are no supporting guys or braces, and the device is simple, self-contained, and effective. By means of the clamp the deflector may be secured in any desired position.
Obviously the design and arrangement of parts may be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not limit myself to any particular form of construction or arrangement of parts, except as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention l.- A deflector for pneumatic stackers, comprising a sleeve, friction means securing said sleeve adjustably in the outer end of the conveyer, a middle section having rotative engagement with the outer end of said sleeve, and'a hood having rotative engagement with the outer end of said section, the planes of rotation of said parts being oblique to each other and means on the segments for independently rotating them.
2. The combination with a pneumatic stacker having a longitudinally-slotted outer end and clamping means thereon of a defiector comprising three interrotatable sections whose axes of rotation are oblique to each other, the end section of said deflector being adj ustably secured in the slotted end of said stacker and means on each section to rotate it independently. r
3. The combination with a pneumatic stacker having a longitudinally-slotted outer end and clamping means thereon of a deflector comprising three interrotatable' sections,
whose axes of rotation are oblique to each other, the end sections of said deflector being adjustably secured in the slotted end of said stacker, and handles on each section.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE F. OONNER.
