TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, Joni! F. ALLEN, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Dove-Tail Saw; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to tho accompanying drawings, and to the letters of refer-.encemarked thereon.
Figure Irepresents a side elevation, and Figure II a cross-section of my irhpreved saw, and Figure III is a top view. I v t The nature of my invention consists in turning the lower part as the after end of a hand-saw to form an angle with the blade similar to a flange, increasing gradually in width, and providing suitable teeth 'on the edge of said flange, in such em tte that after'th'e, front-end of the saw has cut into the wood, in the usual manner, to the desired depth, this after part will then cut at an angle to said first out. I
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the hand-saw, the forward end a of which is provided with teeth in the usual manner. At the aft-er end the lower part b' is bent at an angle corresponding with the required angle of the dove-tail, tapering from the point a, where said flange runs to a point with the straight part a of the saw, to any desired width at the rear end of the saw. The edge of this flange b is provided with teeth similar as the straight part a.
To cut a dove-tail with this saw, the wood is cut downwards by the front part a to any desired depth, forming the side of the dove-tail, after which the saw is pushed further into the wood past the point 0, when the teeth on the flange b will cut horizontally or the bottotn of thedove-tail about one-half of its length. The wood is then turned around, and-the other side of the dove-tail: iscutby theftorward end a of the saw until the desired depth is obtained, when the saw is againpushed furtheri'into the wood past the point 0, and the bottom of the dove-tail cut by the flange '6, till it rneetsthe part out b et'oirel What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Turning a portion of the blade of a hand-saw to form an angle with the otherportion of the blade of said saw, in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
