TO ALL WHOM'IT MAY CNCERN:
Be it known that I, JAMES SLATER, of Philadelphia, iu the county of Philadelphia, and State 'of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Indicator for Steam-Boilers, Btc.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilledin the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates to an improved and novel construction of a valve or indicator for steam andv other boilers, Ste., and in the manner of suspending a weight thereon, whereby many important advantages are secured, as will be obvious from the following detail description, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a face of a valve arranged according to the present invention. Figure 2, a vertical section taken in the plane of the line :a x, g. 1.
A, in the drawings, represents the valve-chamber, secured in the front end of a boiler, B. C, the valvestem or plug, arranged t0 move in the open upper end, D, of the chamberv A. E, a cross-armV or bar, secured in position on the upper end of valve-chamber A., and projecting from each side thereof. F, a yoke or frame, arranged by its two arms, G, to move through the guide-apertures at the outer ends of the arm E, and is provided at the upper ends to such arms G with a cross-bar, H, attached vin such manner. as to be susceptible of adjustment by means of thumb or milled nuts, I, and thus, through its centre stem orpoint, J, be adjusted to a, greater or less height from the valve-stem C, in which it sets. K, a weight, suspended by an eye, L, from the lower end of the yoke F, and by this weight the pressure is brought to bear on the valve-stem. The yoke,
by its arm, is susceptible of a swinging or lateral play in the guides of the arm on the valve-chamber provided` for it. M a screw-plug, inserted in valve-chamber for convenience of cleansing it of all deposits. I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A valve or indicator, constructed and arranged in its parts substantially as and for the purpose described.
