Description
PATENIED I'zgil I A MMA `:ro ALL WHOM 1T MAY O'ONOERN:
@uitrit tsta @stmt @Him BENJAMIN J. HARTMAN, OE WOOSTEE, ASSIGNOE To EI'MSELE V'AND GEORGE LIGGETT, JE., OE WAYNE COUNTY, OHIO.
LettercPatent No.- 7-2,394, dated Decemberl'l, 1867.
IMPEOVED TEAOE-PASTENEE.
` Be it known that I, BENJAMIN J. HARTMAN, of Wooster, in 'the county of Wayne, and in the State of Ohio,- have invented certain new and luseful Improvements inTrace-Fastener, and do hereby declare that the follow.
ing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,l reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the;y
letters of reference marked'thereon.l
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specicittion, l.A represents the short tug or -set lof harness, j which connects to the hames, andy is provided atone end with a metallic loop, B,'for connecting it, and at theo other end with a buckle, G, -forconnecting to the saddle and belly-band. C. represents' the tug, which leads back to the whille-tree. 'In the rear end of the short tug A is inserted a metallic plate, D. This plate has secured to it a spring, e, which-isformed' with shoulder near its outer end Vfor answering the purpose of a catch.
On the opposite side of this plate, from the spring, are twotongues or pins aa. F represents a metallic keeper,
which slides upon the tug A, and which is-provilded, in its outer face, with a slot, zr.
In order to secure the long' tug C tothe short one, the two are placed together, so that the tonguesa .a
enter openings or holes in 'thevtug for that purpose'. The keeper F is thenvmovedf up (surrounding both of the tugs) until it covers the pins or tongues a a, and the spring e, withits shoulder, catches in the slot a; ot' the' keeper. The shoulder onthe spring holds the keeper in place,v and the keeper, ot' course, prevents the tongues a a from leaving the holes inthe tug G. By this means a very secure and simple fastening is made. Theonter end of plate D is curved so as to embrace the-buckle G, to assistin holding it tothe short tug; p Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLettersy Patent, is,- The plate D, as constructed, when used in combination with the t-ugsA and()A and the keeper F,substan tially as and for the purpose set forth. .Y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand. this 21st day of October, 1867.
B. J. HARTMAN.
