TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, 0. H. I. FANCHER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Anti-Kicking Attachment for Horses, and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings hereinafter referred to; forms a fulLand exact specication of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguished from all others ,of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim, and desire to have secured i to me by Letters Patent.
This invention relates toa n ew and improved anti-kicking attachment to be applied to horses in harness.A
The object ofthe invention is to obtain a device for the purpose specified, which will herself-operating, and require no special care or attention on the part of the driver to apply it or cause it to act. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Fig-ure 1 is a perspective view of a horse in harness with my invention appliedto it.

The thills, it will be seen, in consequence'of being attached to the front axle of the vehicle, as usual, are xed, and consequently, should the horse attempt to kick, the strap C would be subjected to a pull or draw precisely the saine as if pulled by the driver, and the strap C, in consoquenceof being sub jected to this pull' or draw, will cause the bit to be drawn upward in the mouth of the horse, throwing his head up' and efi'ectually preventingvkicking. This upward pull of the bit effected through the medium of both pairs of rings a a,.as the straps b, to which tl rings CX being attached to their upper ends, through which rings and the bit-rings a the strap C passes.
` This invention has been practicallyA tested, and has been found to operate well; The appliances hitherto usedto prevent horses from kicking require to be operated by the driver, and hence Ythe horse always has a chance to kick once or twice before. being checked; besides, these devices require a driver to be constantly on the alert or watch, and hence they are not a perfect safeguard.
My improvement isvoperated by the hor the part of the driver being required.
I would remark that a curb-bit may, if necessary, be' used with this invention. instead of being attachedto the ends of the bar of the bit, are attached to the chce bar of the bit, where the reins are usually attached in using a curb-bit.
