STOPPING DEVICE FOR BOTTLES.
APPLICATION I IL ED APR. 28, 1902.
N0 MODEL.
Zfliizzeldel: I
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT GROSS, OF RASTENBERG, GERMANY.
. STOPPING DEVICE FOR BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 723,459, dated March 24, 1903.
Application filed April 28, 1902. Serial No. 105045. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT GROSS, doctor of medicine, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Rastenberg, Province of Thuringia, German Empire; have invented new and useful Improvements in Stopping Devices for Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved device for stopping bottles by means of corks.
The object of the improvement is to allow a secure stopping of bottles by means of a cork lying across the neck of the bottle which can be taken out without the aid of a corkscrew and can be easily replaced and secured in its position.
In the accompanying drawings the neck of a bottle provided with the improved stopping device is shown in Figure 1 in a side View and in Fig. 2 in a front view. Fig. 3 is a side view showing a modification of the device for locking the stopper in its position.
The end fof the neck 6 of the bottle is provided with two lugs g h, projecting above the neck of the bottle and properly rounded, so as to form a seat for the cork a, which is best of the usual cylindrical shape, but can be of rectangular or other cross-section, in which case, however, the hollow formed in the upper end of the neck of the bottle must be of corresponding shape. Under the mouthpiece f of the neck of the bottle a ring '5 is fastened around the bottle, to which a looking device is attached. This locking device can be of any suitable construction and may consist, for example, of a bent piece of metal I), which fits the upper curvature of the cork a, and of a locking device 0, which either consists of a suitably-bent metal strip or wire adapted to grip over the upwardly-bent end of the bent piece b or, as shown in Fig. 3, of a vertical metal piece it, the upper end of which is bent at right angles. In the latter case the end of the bent piece I) must be hori zontal. The parallel ends of the both parts 1) and c are connected by means of a screw d or in any other suitable manner.
Having fully described my invention what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patout, is- 6 Improved stopping device for bottles, consisting of two lateral lugs, vertically project ing' above the neck of the bottle, said lugs rounded so as to form a seat for the cork and a locking device for securing the cork in its position on the neck of the bottle, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT GROSS.
