Be it known that LJACOB EUTENEUER, of Peoria, county ot' Peoria, State of Illinois, have Vinvented a new and useful lmproved Lamp-Chimney Tongs, ot'A which the following is a. full, clear, and exact descriptionJ reference being had to the annexed drawing, making apart of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a top view ot' my invention. The design of my invention is to produce a pair of tongs by which lamp-chimneys may be readily moved without the necessity of touching them with the hand. It consists of a ha-ndle, A, iigs. 1 and 2, formed of two arms, B B', similar in appearance lte that of a pair ot' scissors, and working in the same way-upon a pivot, cl. Through the arms B B', and at a short distance from the pivot, two strong wires (one of which is shown at c, iig; 2) pass, at right angles to the arms. These wires, at a short distance from theiarnis, are bent at a right angle with themselves, und in o. line pnrallel with the arms, as shown at k c, iig. 1, and c. c'", fig. 2; and, again, at m m', iig. 2, m m", iig. 1, are'hent so u's to form claws, as shown at o, tig. 1, the length of the arms, and the points at which the wires are bent, being determined bythe size of the ehimneyto be removed, and the sets of claws are at such a. distance from each other as to grasp the chimney just above and below the swell H of same, as seen in iig. 2.
It is evident that by the use of my invention, `the difiieulty of handling lamp-chimneys when heated-is entirely removed, since by it they maybe moved as readily as bythe hand, and yet with no danges of burning.
What I claim as my invention, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, isl The grasping-claws and handle of.' chimney-tongs, when constructed and arranged substantially as shown and specified.
