FRANCIS H. DUESLER, OF JOHNSTOWN, NEW YORK.
SHEET-MUSIC HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 722,004, dated March 3, 1 903.
Application filed May 1,1901. Serial No. 58,26 2. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANCIS H. DUESLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Johnstown, county of Fulton, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sheet-Music Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Myinvention has relation to improvements in music-holders; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and convenient device of this character which consists of a strip of metal curved longitudinally in concavo-convex form, having means connected therewith to coact with means attached to a sheet or sheets of music, whereby the same is readily attached to or detached from the strip.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the music-holder. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the gummed leaves adapted to be attached to the sheet of music. Fig. 3.is a front elevation showing the tabs attached to the hooks having a brokenaway sheet of music secured thereto.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a curved strip of thin sheet metal made longitudinally in concavo-convex form and of a length suitable to the size of sheets of musicto be held.
The letter B designates three steel-wire hooks arranged at suitable distances apart in the concave or curved portion of the holder. These hooks have their rear portions 1) se cured to the curved portion of the holder, while the parts 17 thereof are free and extend infront of the portions b. The terminal ends of these front portions 1) of the hooks are bent at right angles therewith to form projections c,so as to allow of the engagement of stickers with the front portions b.
As shown in Fig. 2, the letter D represents tabs having four prongs, each having on one side a coating of adhesive gum, and d is the opening in the tab for attaching the same to the hooks. In use three tabs are employed, and by moistenin g the prongs on the gummed sides they are stuck to sheets of music at proper intervals apart to accommodate the hooks on the holder and suitably to the number of leaves in the sheet of music to be held, thus one prong to a leaf. This being accomplished, the opening d in the tabs is connected to the projections c of the hooks and thence slidably connected to the body of the same, whereby to hold the leaves in contact therewith or removably disconnect the same therefrom. In Fig. 3 of the drawingsl have shown in dotted lines the mode of connecting the prongs of the tabs to the marginal edges of the sheets.
For the purpose of protecting the music from injury or being soiled Imay provide the same with a cover having the stickers secured to the marginal edges thereof and connected to the hooks the same as the sheets of music.
I wish it to be understood that when the music is attached to my holder the same can be rolled up and carried in a music-case or otherwise.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A sheet-music holder comprising a strip of metal constructed longitudinally in concavo-convex form and having one portion of hooks secured at suitable intervals apart in said concavo portion, the other portions of said hooks'being free and provided with a terminal end bent at right angles therewith, substantially as specified.
2. In a sheet-music holder, the combination with a strip of metal constructed longitudinally in concavo-convex form having one portion of hooks secured at suitable intervals apart in concavo portion, the other portions of the hooks being free and provided with terminal end bent at right angles therewith, of gummed tabs made in leaf form adapted to be secured to the marginal edges of sheetmusic and having openings in one portion of the same so as to be connected with said bent ends to slidably engage the free portions of said hooks, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence'of two witnesses, this 29th day of April, 1901.
