To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that LJOHN OBERSEIDER, Jr., a citizen of the United States,residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat- Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is an improved hat-brush in the form of a bag or mitten designed to heslipped on a persons hand to rub a hat eitherto remove dust or smooth the surface and so constructed that it can be conveniently entered in every crevice of the hat, especiallysons hand when in use and will by its inherent construction tend to fold up when not in use in predetermined folds similar to a wallet, so that it can be conveniently carried in the pocket.

The invention consists of certain constructions and arrangementsof parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved mitten-brush with the brushing-face uppermost and illustrates the curved shape the brush tends to assume on account of its inherent construction. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal sectional view of the brush reversed upside down from the position shown in Fig. l and shows the construction and illustrates the shape the brush usually assumes when in use on a persons hand. Fig. 3 is a detail view illustrating the manner of stitching to gether the sections of cloth forming the face, each row of stitching forming a crease or break whereby said sections tend in the completed brush to fold one upon the other. Fig. 4t is an end view of the mitten hat-brush in its folded condition ready to be carried in a persons pocket.

The face or brushing side of my improved hat-brush is made of chinchilla or some other heavy woolen fabric and is in this instance constructed in sections (designated a, Z), and c.) Said three sections are united along their transverse edges in the manner illustrated in Fig. 3that is, one: section is laid or folded on top of the otherand a cross-row of stitching d connects them near the edges and forms creases or breaks, so' that when said sections are spread apart, as illustrated in Fig. 2, the small margins e, of cloth, beyond the stitching act somewhat as a stop-hinge and always tend to return the sections together one upon the other in a direction to fold up. After the three sections ct, b, and 0 have been connected, as described, a preferably thin fabric f, such as satin or the like, is stitched to three of the margin edges of the brush-face, the remaining edge being left disconnected or open, whereby is formed a bag or mitten in which a person may thrust his hand to use the brush, and preferably secured to this fabric f,.which forms the back of the brush, is a loop or band g, intended to encircle the brush in the folded condition illustrated in Fig. 4.

From the foregoing description and accompanying drawings it will be seen that I have provided a hat-brushin which straight lines of stitching d draw the brush-face fabric on one side, so as to produce creases or breaks, which'tend to fold the sections one upon the other, and this renders the brush convenient.

to handle when in use and when not in use assists in the expeditious folding of the brush, so that it may be carried in a persons pocket.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A hat-brush in the form of a bag or mitten, whose faceor brushing side comprises a plurality of sections of fabric, said sections being separated by transverse rows of stitching which form creases or breaks on the face and tend to fold the sections oneupon the other, as and for the purpose set forth.
