SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,832, dated February 3, 1903.
Application filed June 24, 1901. Serial No. 65,871. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARCHIBALD BUCHANAN MILLER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing in the county of Middlesex, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Box-Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hinges for hinging parts of boxes together, whereby a 'verysim- .ple, cheap, and effective hinge is obtained.
of a box and of its cover or lid, showing the improved hinge applied thereto.
a is a staple having its prongs or legs flattened and tapered, as shown, to form chiselshaped points, the planes of such flattened legs being parallel to the plane of the staple.
b is the complementary staple, also having its prongs or legs flattened and tapered to form chisel-shaped points; but in this case the planes of the flattened legs are perpendicular to the plane of the staple.
It will be seen that the flat sides of the staples in both cases are driven parallel to the grain of the wood and that the points of the legs of said staples are deflected or caused to curve back and reenter the Wood, as shown in Fig. 5, thus securely clenching the staples and preventing their withdrawal.
What I claim is-- The combination, in a hinge made of two interlocking staples, of a staple having its legs chisel-shaped ina direction at right angles to theplane of the staple and another staple In testimony whereof I have hereunto set A. BUCHANAN MILLER.
