UNITED STATES PATENT CEEICE.
CLARENCE L. GREILICK, OF TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO .I. E. GREILICK COMPANY, OF TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
CORNER-FASTENING FOR CUPBOARDS, 860.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1908.
To all whom it may concern} Be it known that I, CLARENCE L. GREI- LICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Traverse City, in the county of Grand Traverse and State of Michigan, have in vented a new and useful Corner-Fastening for Cupboards, &c., of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a corner fastening for cupboards, etc.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient corner fastening of great strength and durability, designed for use in the construction of cupboards, wardrobes, and the like, and capable of enabling two angularly related members to be quickly and firmly interlocked, and of effectually preventing the same from becoming accidentally disconnected while in such relative position.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claim, may be resorted to with out departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corner fastening, constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applied to two boards or members. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same. Fig.
3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line ww of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a similar view, taken substantially on the line yy of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the plates or members of the corner fastening. Fig. 6 is a similar view of the other plate or member of the corner fastening.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
The corner fastening comprises two interlocking plates or members 1 and 2, constructed of stout sheet metal, or any other suitable material. The plate or member 1v has an outwardly bent portion 3, and it is provided with a pair of projecting lugs 4, extending from the outwardly bent portion and arranged at an acute angle to the plate or member 1. The outwardly bent portion 3 is disposed at an obtuse angle to the body portion of the plate 1, and it cooperates with the lugs 4 to form a crotch for the reception of a substantially T-shaped head 5 of the other plate or member 2.
The lugs 4 have inwardly converging inner edges 6,'and the T-shaped head 5 of the plate or member 2 is arranged at an obtuse angle to the latter, and is provided with an inwardly tapered substantially wedge-shaped neck 7, which is adapted to fit in the inwardly tapered recess or space between the lugs 4 of the plate or member 1. When the parts are interlocked, the tapered neck is wedged in the tapering recess, formed by the lugs, and the laterally extending arms 8 of the head are received within the crotch formed by the lugs and the outwardly bent portion of the plate or member 1.
The two plates or members of the corner fastening device are engaged with each other when the boards or members 9 and 10 are arranged at an acute angle and when the said boards or members are arranged at right angles to each other, the tapered neck is carried into the inner end of the recess. This wedges the parts together and they 'cannot become accidentally disconnected while the boards 9 and 10 remain in a position at right angles to each other. The corner fastening is designed for use in various kinds of knock-down structures, and it will enable the members thereof to be quickly connected and disconnected.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A corner fastening comprising a plate or member having an outwardly bent portion and provided thereat with spaced projecting lugs cooperating with the outwardly bent portion to form a crotch and arranged at an acute angle to the said plate or member, the inner edges of the lugs being converged inwardly to form a tapering recess, and a-sec- 0nd plate or member provided with a substantially T-shaped head disposed at an obmy own I have hereto a'lfixed my signature tuse angle to the latter plate or member and in the presence of two Witnesses.
consisting of an inwardly tapered neck to T engage the tapered recess of the first men- OLAREBOE GREILIOK' 5 tioned plate or member, and laterally eX- Witnesses:
tending arms to fit in the said crotch. CLAIRE B. CURTIS,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as HELEN ABBOTT.
