NITF STATES ATENT SWING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,801, dated January 27, 1903.
Application filed August 12, 1902. Serial No. 119,370- (No model.)
To CLZZ whom it Hwy concern.-
Be it known that I, CARL T. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Sistersville, in the county of Tyler and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in swings; and the primary object thereof is to provide a rigid swingframe which can be supported in any desired manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a swing-frame constructed entirely of metallic tubing, which is formedin sections and connected by suitable couplings:
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character that will be extremely simple in construction, strong, durable, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and highly efficient in its use.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specificatiomand wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout both views, in which- Figure 1 is aview in perspective of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view, in side elevation, of the canvas bottom of the swing.
In the drawings, 1 indicates the vertical side bars of the swing-frame, said side bars having their upper ends bent inwardly and connected by the couplings 2 and 3 to the transversely-extending top bar 4, which is formed in two sections, said sections being secured together by coupling 5.
6 indicates the bottom bars of the swingframe, which are bent intermediate their ends, as at 7, to form the head-rest.
8 indicates the transversely-arranged end bars, which are connected to the bottom bars 6 by the couplings 9 and to the side bars 1 by the short pipe- sections 10 and 11 and the couplings 12. These end bars are also formed in sections and are normally secured together by the couplings 13.
14 indicates the foot-rest, comprising the downwardly-extending right-angular bars 15 and the end connecting-bar 16. The side bars 15 and end bars 16 are connected together by couplings 17.
18 indicates T-shaped couplings through the medium of which the foot-rest is secured to the bottom bars of the swing-frame.
In the drawings I have shown the bottom bars of the swing-frame provided with a canvas covering 19, which is illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawings and stitched or otherwise secured to the bottom and end bars 6 and 8, respectively.
As heretofore stated, my present invention lies entirely in the novel construction of the swing frame, and although I have shown hooks 20 for normally supporting the same it will be obvious that I do not restrict myself to this supporting medium, inasmuch as any desired means can be employed to accomplish this result.
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A swing-frame comprising vertical side bars detachably secured together at their up- 8 5 per ends, a transverse top bar detachably secured to the upper ends of the said side bars, horizontal end bars, and longitudinally-arranged bars detachably secured to the lower ends of said side bars, said longitudinal bars being bent intermediate their ends to form a head-rest, substantially as described.
2. A swing-frame comprising vertical side bars,a transversely-extending top bar secured to the said side bars, end bars connected to the lower ends of said side bars, longitudinal .bars, said longitudinal bars being bent intermediate their ends to form a head-rest, a canvas covering secured to the said end and longitudinal bars respectively, and a foot-rest 10o formed of metallic tubing detachably secured to the longitudinal bars, substantially as described.
In testimony wheroof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CARL T. CAMPBELL.
