To all whont may concern.-

Be itknown that I, ELEANOR BELL,a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Sidmouth, county of Devon, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.

My invention relates to improvements in corset attachments, and particularly to corset attachments designed to act as a skirt-retaining device, to engage the band of the skirt with a view to depressing the skirt at the band in front.

My invention comprises a flexible strip adapted to be secured to the corset at one side thereof and to be rexnovably attached at various points near its opposite end to the other side of the corset and provided with a skirtretaining hook movably mounted upon the strip intermediate of its ends.

The object of my invention is to provide a skirt-retaining hook which is adjustable relatively to the corset for varying heights, is laterally movable while worn, so as to give to the movements of the body of the wearer, and which will permit the corset to be removed while still retaining a connection with the corset, so that it cannot become displaced or lost.

I will now proceed to describe a corset attachment embodying my invention and will then point out the novel features in claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a corset attachment in use in connection with a skirt, the front of which is shown depressed thereby. In this figure the principal portion of the corset attachment is shown in dotted lines as being concealed behind the skirt. Fig. 2 is a face View, on a larger scale, of the corset attachment secured to a corset. Fig. 3 shows a wearer in the act of putting on a corset and illustrates the corset attachment secured to one side of the corset and detached from the other side.

The device comprises a strip of flexible material a, secured at b to one side of the corset. The strip may conveniently be a portion of tape, ribbon, or the like, and may be secured in any desired manner, as by sewing or the like. Near its opposite end the strip is provided with a plurality of eyelet-holes c, and the corset is provided with a hook d ata point upon the other side of the corset substantially opposite to and corresponding with the point at which the other end of the strip is secured to the corset. The hook d is adapted to engage the flexible strip at any one of the eyelet-holes, so that the strip may be secured to the corset at various points near its free end. A skirt-retaining hook e is carried by the flexible strip at a point intermediate its ends and is here shown as connected therewith by being threaded thereon, so that the hook may be and is at any time laterally movable to compensate for movements of the body of the wearer and also is adjustable to compensate for variations due to the different points at which the free end of the strip is attached to the corset.

The attachment being permanently secured to one side of the corset only will permit the corset to be readily removed and replaced upon'the wearer, as shown in Fig. 3, without hindrance, and at the same time this prevents the device from becoming lost. WVhen the corset is fastened in place, the free end of the strip a may be attached to the hook at at any point 0 desired, so that the skirt-retaining hook 6 may be adjusted to the desired height. The band of the skirt will then be caught under the hook e, as shown in Fig. 1, and the front of the band will hence be held in a depressed position, as desired. To raise or lower the skirt-retaining hook, so as to readjust the line of the skirt.-band, it will of course be merely necessary to readjust the point of attachment of the free end of the strip with the hook d, and when it is desired to remove the corset it will only be necessary to disconnect the free end from the hook d and then to remove the corset in the ordinary manner.

What I claim is 1. A corset attachment comprising a strip of flexible material adapted to be secured at one end to a corset, upon one side thereof, and having means for removably securing it to the other side of the corset at its other end, and provided intermediate its ends with a hook, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A corset attachment comprising a strip of flexible material adapted to be secured at one end to a corset, upon one side thereof, and having means for removably securingit to the, other side of the corset at its other end, and provided intermediate its ends with a hook adjustable with respect thereto, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. A corset attachment comprising a strip of flexible material adapted to be secured at one end to a corset, upon one side thereof, and having means for adjustably securing it to the other side of the corset near its opposite end, and provided intermediate its ends with a hook, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

4. A corset attachment comprising a strip of flexible material adapted to be secured at one end to a corset, upon one side thereof, and having means for removably securing it to the other side of the corset at various points near its opposite end, and provided intermediate its ends with a hook, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

5. A corset attachment comprising a strip of flexible material adapted to be secured at one end to one side of the corset, and having means for attaching it to the other side of the corset at various points near its opposite end, and provided, intermediate its ends, with a hook adjustable with respect thereto, sub' of flexible material secured to one side thereof, said strip having a plurality of eyelet-holes near its opposite end, a hook upon the other side of the corset, adapted to, engage the said eyelet -holes, and a skirtretaining hook, mounted upon the said strip intermediate its ends.
