HOSE-SUPPORTER.

Be itknown that I, WILLIAM C. MICHAEL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts,have invented `new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hosesupporting devices, the object being to provide antimproved device of this class in which the main supporting element is applied directly to the leg of the wearer above thetop of the hose and to provide improved means intermediate of said main element and the leg of the hose whereby the former is held in place through the moderate tension of said intermediate connections, through which the leg of the hose is maintained in a state of suitable tension while being worn.

Figure 1 of the drawings forming part of this application `illustrates in perspective View hose-supporting devices constructed according to my invention', said figure showing in outline the form of a leg to which said devices are applied and the outline of the upper part of a hose-leg to which said devices are shown to be attached. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through one of the cord-at taching plates and the buckle, which are secured to the end of the band.

Referring to the drawings, 2 indicates a leg-inelosing band, preferably non-elastic, of

a length somewhat less than the circumfer-v ence of the leg of the-wearer j ust above the larger part of the calf thereof, to the end that the ends thereof cannot be drawn together under any strain to which they may be subjected in holding upthe leg of the hose therebelow and whereby said band is made to retain its position around the leg. A frictional slide 3 is attached to one end of said band 2 for adjusting the length of the latter either secured to said members or to the ends of the band 2. The free ends of said plates j and j', as indicated at 5 and G, are bent up and clampedr around the ends of the two cords 9 and 10. These two cords are the hosevsupporting members, and they may be made of elastic or non-elastic material, as preferred. The cord 9 is attached to that one of the plates j lying behind the pulley 7 and extends from thence transversely of the leg of the wearer over the pulley 8 and from thence to the point ofits attachment to the hose. The cord 10 is attached to that one of the plates j lying behind the pulley 8 and runs over the pulley 7 and from thence to the point of its attachment to the hose, the course of the two cords lying opposite to one another. Preferably these cords 9 and 10 cross each other, as shown in the drawings, and each is provided with a spring-clasp 12, whereby the hose may be engaged. Itis obvious that any inclination of the stocking-leg to draw downwardly causes a certain increased tension upon the cords 9 and 10, which is communicated to -the pulleys 7 and 8 on the band 2 and causes the latter to be drawn with increased force against the leg of the wearer. The said stocking-clasps 12, by which the ends of the cords 9 and 10 are temporarily attached to the stocking, contain means, as below described, for readjusting the same on the ends of said cords, whereby the upward draw upon the stocking is increased, if desired, said construction being as follows: Said'clasp 12 has a tubular portion c, which receives the extremities of the cords 9 and 10, in which is an inwardly-bentvtongue CZ, under Whose free end the extremity 0f one of saidv cordsl is passed and thereby held against any retreating movement, and should it be desired to draw the clasp nearer the pulley 8 or 7 said cord can be drawn farther into said tube, A flat extension e on said clasp 12 has a spring-actuated tongue i pivoted thereon, as shown, which when a part of the leg of the hose is placed thereunder so engages the same as to constitute means for holding said cords 9 and 10 in such connection therewith as serves to hold said leg in an upward position.

Having thus described my invention, what tremities of said cords whereby the same are removably connected-to the upper end ofthe leg of a hose, substantially as described.

2. A hose-supporter comprising aleg-band, a pulley mounted at each end of the band, two cords one secured to eachend of the band, and passing over the pulley on the opposite end, and a hose-engaging clasp secured to the zo free ends of the cords.
