UN TED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NELSON J. NILSSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SOAP CAKE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 717,256, dated December 30, 1902.
Application filed September 13, 1902. Serial No. 123,227. (No specimens.)
citizen of the United States, residing at New I York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Soap Cakes, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an ordinary cake of soap with means whereby it may be more securely held in the hand and more conveniently used whenwet, which object is accomplished by means of a piece of cloth or loosely-woven fabric, which is embedded in one side of the bar of soap when the latter is made and by means of which a bar of soap may be more securely held in the hands when wet, the cloth or fabric, which remains securely embedded in the bar, serving to prevent the latter from slipping out of the hand.
The invention is fully disclosedin the following specification, of which the accompanyingldrawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bar of soap made according to my invention; Fig. 2, a crosssection thereof; and Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. 2, showing a modification,
In thedrawings forming part of this speci-v fication I have shown at a an ordinary bar of soap and at b a loosely-woven or other suitable fabric which is embedded in one side thereof, and in Fig. 2 the fabric 1) incloses a portion of the top and bottom of the bar, while in Fig. 3 it is only on one side thereof.
opposite the cloth or fabric.
In practice the cloth or fabric is put into a mold, after which the soap is pressed therein in the usual manner, so as to form the bar, and inthis operation the cloth or fabric is firmly embedded in the material of the soap and remains firmly securedto the bar at all times, .it being understood that the bar of soap will wear away during use on the side The bar of soap, provided with a cloth or fabric which is secured thereto, as shown and described, may
be much more conveniently handled and may be more securely held in the hand than as usually made, and my improvement is not limited in any way to the character or style of the cloth or fabric, nor to the shape, form, or character of the bar of soap.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bar or cake of soap one side and the adjacent corners of which are covered by a piece of loosely-woven fabric which is embedded therein in the operation of making the bar or cake, substantially as shown and described.
2. A bar or cake of soap one side of which is provided with a covering of loosely-woven fabric which is embedded therein in the operation of making abar or cake, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 12th Witnesses:
F. A. STEWART, O. E. MULREANY.
