UNITED STATES NELSON E. HARPER, OF PAULDING, OHIO.
SPECIFICATION fomning part of Letters Patent No.' 715,376, dated December 9, 1902.
Application filed July 23, 1902. Serial No. 116,688. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, NELSON E. HARPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paulding, in the county of Paulding and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Photograph-Holder, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to devices employed for connecting two or more photograph-cards, card-pictures, and the like in a foldable position and also in a position to be readily connected and disconnected, and has for its object the production of a simply constructed and applied device whereby a plurality of photograph-cards and similar articles may be detachably and adjustably connected or cards of different sizes interchangeably connected in the same series.
The invention consists in a rod having a plurality of pairs of yieldable clips movably disposed thereon adapted to detachably engage the cards, so that they may be folded together when not in use or extended to expose their faces.
Other novel features of the invention will appear in the annexed description and be specified in the claims.
In the drawings illustrative of the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device applied. Fig. 2'is a perspective view of one of the clips detached.
The improved device consists of a rod 10 of any suitable size or material, but preferably either gold or silver plated, and with ornamental enlarged ends 11, forming stops to prevent the removal of the rod from the clips. The clips consist of metal plates 12, of tem` pered metal, to cause them to possess the requisite resiliency and folded around the rods with the ends in close engagement, as shown in Fig. 2, which represents one of the clips detached. As many of the clips may be employed as required, but generally four will be employed upon each rod and arranged in pairs, as shown.
The spaced sides of the clips 12 are adapted to receive the edges of the photographcards, (indicated at 13,) and When arranged in pairs With the adjacent edges of each pair of the clips in engagement and disposed at opposite ends of the rods they afford means for the support of two photograph-cards in movable engagement with the rod, the clips forming the leaves of the hinges and the rod forming the pintle to the hinges, so that the photographs may be folded together face to face or back to back or opened out, as illustrated in Fig. 1.
In the illustration the devices are shown applied only to the sides of the photographcards; but it is evident that they could be as readily applied to the ends of the cards. In that event the rods l-would necessarily be shorter than when employed upon the sides of the card; but this would not affect the invention.
It will' be obvious that by employing a plurality of their rods and their movably-attached and adjustable clips an unlimited ynumber of photograph-cards may be movably coupled and adapted to be folded or extended at will. It Will also be obvious that photographs of different sizes may be readily coupled together by adjusting the clips longitudinally of the rods to correspond to the sizes of the photographs.
The lengths of the rods may be varied as required to adapt the device to dierent sizes of cards, and the clips 12 maybe likewise varied in size and of any thickness of metal to increase or decrease their strength and correspondingly increase or decrease' their grip upon the cards.
The clips may be made of any ornamental or fanciful design, so that their presence Will not detract from the appearance of the photographs orv other cards held in the device.
This makes a very simple, complete, and easily-applied device, whereby a plurality of cards of any kind or similar articles maybe movably and detachably connected in a position to be folded like the leaves of a book or extended to expose the faces of the cards.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A card-holder comprising a rod having pairs of longitudinally-movable clamps pivotally mounted thereon and opening in different directions to engage the adjacent edges of a plurality of cards.
2. Acard-holder comprising arod provided with spring-clips disposed in pairs thereon,
IOO
the jaws of the respective pairs being disl clips movably engaging said rod and adapted posed in different directions to engage the to engage the adjacent edges of a plurality of adjacent edges of a plurality of cards. cards'.
3. A card-holder comprising a rod, having In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 5 spring-clips mounted thereon, said clips havmy own I have hereto affixed my signature in I5 ing eyes for pivotally engaging said rod and the presence of two Witnesses.
ared lips for receiving the edges of cards to NELSON E. HARPER. be carried by said holder. Witnesses:
4. A card-holder comprising a rod having C. M. HUDSON,
Io stops at its opposite ends, and pairs of springl C. K. CUNNINGHAM.
