TOALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, SANFORD A. HICKEL, of the town of Spencer, in the county of Keane, and Sta.
West Virginia, have invented a new and improved Enamel for Finishing Leather; and I do hereby declare the following is a full description of the same, as composed of the following-named ingredients; a specimen the said ingredients and the composition is herewith presented The nature of my invention consists in combining one gallon of alcohol; one und a-half (1%) poundp gu shellac, or any other waterproof gum; three-fourths f) of a pound of Burgundy pitch, or any other extract rosin or turpentine; one ounce of eamphor; and dissolve these together. Two (2)ioimces gum-cope], two(2 ouncesrosin; ,pulverize these together, and dissolve them in one-half pint ofiturpen tine. 4 After this is isolved, add it to the first compound, composed, as above, of one gallon of alcohol, o ie aud a. half poundgum shellac, or any other water-proof gum, three-fourths of a'pound of Burgundy pitch, or any otlier extract rosin,and-one ounce of camphor. Then add to this compound three (3) ounces of clarified lamp-black, or 1th same quantity of ivory-black. iii? i I i i i This makes a thorough water-proof finish, which neither change of weather, water, nor oil will affect body of. The finish is elastic, and will not fracture, and may be applied to many other purposes hesideslh finishing of leather, as, for instance, to finishing and enamelling wood, iron, steel, andcloth.
