To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES DOREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Hods, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to plasterers and masons hods, and has for its object to provide a knockdown or collapsible hod that may readily be taken apart for transportation and which upon reaching its destination may be quickly put together to form a rigid and water-tight structure.

The invention consists in certain novel features of construction andcombination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and fi nally pointed out in the claims.

In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is an end view thereof. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are perspective views, respectively, of the end and sides of the hod. Fig. 6 is an enlarged cross-section on line 6 6 of Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the said drawings, the letters a and b represent the inclined side pieces, and c the end piece of the hod, having a handle (1, by which it is carried, and a cushion-block e. The lower edges f f of the said sides are beveled equal to the slope of the sides when the hod is assembled, and immediately above the bevel of piece a is an integral cleat g, substantially triangular in cross-section and adapted to fill the angle formed between the two sides. In order, however, to make a tighter fit at this juncture, I preferably form a shoulder g be neath the said cleat and offset the beveled edge f of the piece 6. Adjacent to and respectively equidistant from the rear vertical edge of each side is a groove h, preferably of triangular section ,which continues across the top of cleat g.

The registering edgesc of the end piece are beveled to correspond with the aforesaid groove bottom,cand they, as well as the contact-face of cleat g, are provided with packing-striped and k, respectively, of rubber, preferably.

The several aforementioned parts are socured together by screw-threaded bolts Z, projecting through apertures Z of side a in proximity to the lower edge of the side, and a chain m, connecting eyebolts n and 9t, fastened to each side adjacent to their tops and between the rear edges of the sides and theend piece. Upon the end piece is a bracket p, positioned so as to be above a right line connecting the said eyebolts, so as to deflect the said chain, and consequently when a tension is put upon the chain a downward pressure is exerted through the bracket, which keeps the end piece firmly seated. A hook m is included in chain m, whereby it is readily separable for taking the hod apart. Threaded nuts i", having ears r for turning, are providedfor bolts Z and one of the eyebolts 'n. To each of the side pieces is fixedly fastened a brace y, having aprojecting end or tang .9, preferably tapering in a transverse direction toward the bottom, so that when forced into a socket t of handle d, provided with a hole also tapering, a supplemental clamp is formed thereby, A fiat pin a, driven through apertures o of said socket and tangs, key them rigidly together. Between the parts of the cushion-block e I insert leather or rubber strips to for the purpose of distributing the load between the opposite sides. The handle 01 maybe made in a number of lengths, so that the entire device may be packed within a small compass for easy conveyance.

Having thus described my invention, what .I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a collapsible hod, comprising sides having beveled bottom edges, a substantially triangular cleat integral with one of said sides, an end piece adapted to fit into a groove provided in the rear ends of said sides and cleat, a brace secured to each of said sides and extending therebeneath, and means to clamp "the aforesaid sides and end together.

3. The combination in a collapsible 110d, with the sides, an end, a handle and a cushion-block of a cleat substantially triangular integral With one of said sides, packing-strips on said end and said cleat, securing means for the bottom edges of the sides, securing means for the top adjacent to the rear end adapted to engage with a bracket upon said end to keep the latter firmly seated, and said bracket, substantially as described.
