TOBACCO-HANG ER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 713,101, dated November 11, 1902.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, CALVIN R. HosFoRD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a device of the class specified having features of novelty and advantage.

A considerable source of expense in curing tobacco resides in the present methods of Stringing the tobacco for curing, and this is not only a source of considerable expense, but it also results in spoiling a good many leaves if the leaf is not pierced carefully in the sti-inging operation. With these objections in mind I have devised the herein-described hanger, which does not necessitate the piercing of the leaf or stem in order to hangit for curing.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the device as it appears when in use. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views of the same.

My device comprises a wire frame A, made up of two parallel members B C, united at their ends. The frame shown in the drawings is made from a single piece of wire bent upon itself and having its free ends twisted together. Atl intervals along this wire are formed pin-retainers D, dac. In conjunction with this frame I use a straight wire rod G, which is laid between the members B C of the frame and is of sufficient length to rest upon the closed ends of the frame, as clearly shown in the drawings. This wire rod G is heldin position by pins H of any suitable sort, the ordinary shingle-nail being adaptable for this purpose, which is passed under one frame member, over the rod G, and under the opposite frame member, as is clearly shown in the drawings.

The operation of the device will be clearly understood. The rod G is removed and the stems of the leaves laid across the two frame members B C. The rod G is then laid in place and secured by the pins H, securely clamping the stems between the frame members and the rod G.

I do not wish to limit myself to the exact embodiment of my invention shown and described herein, inasmuch as it is subject to modification without departing from the spirit of the invention.

I claim as my invention'- 1. In a tobacco-hanger the frame made up of a plural number of members and provided with pin-retainers, the cooperating rod and pins to hold said rod in place.

2. In a tobacco-hanger a frame composed of two members arranged in substantial parallelism, pin-retainers in said frame members, the rod coacting with said frame, and the pins for holding said rod in place, substantially as described.

3.A In a tobacco-hanger the frame comprising two members arranged in parallelism with one another, said frame being closed at its ends, pin-retainers formed at intervals along said frame members, a rod cooperating with said frame members and having its ends resting on the closed ends of the frame, and pins for holding the parts in position, substantially as described.
