- ro ALL WHoM rr MAY ooNoERN:
Be it known that I, JESSE FnwKS, of Newtop, in the county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts,
have invented certain Improvements in Spindles for. Spools, Bobbins, 85e.; of which the following is a full,V
clear, and 'exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in whichv Figure 1 is a plan.
Figure 2 is a vertical section on the line :a :c of iig. 1, representing a. spool secured in place within its frame upon a vertical spindle.
' Figure 3 is vertical section on the liney y of tig. 1, representing the spindle in a position to admit of thel removal ofthe spool.
My invention has for its object, to support a spool, reel, or bobbin upon its spindle, and to provide a means for readily removing it therefrom, and my invention consists in'pivoting, within the frame, one end of1 the spindle, in order that it may be swung to one side to receive 'the spool, reel, or bobbin, when it is locked in position, by fitting over a pin or projection rising from the opposite side of the frame, or by a projection on the spool, dto., fitting into a hole or socketin the frame.
To enable others skilled in the art to understand and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the.
manner in which I have carried it out. y
In the'said drawings, A is a spool-frame, to. the inside of the upper end of which, at a, is loosely pivoted a spindle, b, which is free to be swung to either side by hand into the position seen in tig. 3, to allow ofthe spool B being readily slipped thereon or removed therefrom. From the inside ofthe lower portion ofthe frame, rises a pin or projection, c, over which tits' the hollow portion ofthe lower end ofthe spool, when thespindle is swung back into' a vertical position, as seen in tigfl, the resistance of a spiral spring, d, surround-ing the spindle, serving to keep the spool in place upon the projection c, and preventda'ny liability of rattling orjumping out. e' is a guide through which the yarn is led to the weaving point.A When it is desired to remove the spool from its frame, it is simply necessary to press it upward (against the spring) 'until its lower end clears the pin or projection c, when it may be swung to one side, and removed from the spindle. Instead of the spool B fitting over a pin, c, projecting from the frame A, a pin projecting from the spool may tit into an opening inthe frame, and
the spindle may be horizontal instead of vertical, without departing from the spirit of my invention. I have referred in the foregoing description to a stationary spindle,` but may use one which lrevolves, if circumstances should makeit desirable.
What I claim as my invention, and desire te secure by Letters Patent, is i A spindle,.b, pivoted loosely within its frame A, in combination with a pin,'c, or equivalent device, sub stantally as and for the purpose set forth.
