xrl ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN: n
Be it known thatI, FREEMAN F. MYRICK, of Dublin, in the county of Cheshire, and State of New Hompshire` hve invented a. new and improved Thread and Yarn-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is e. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming port of this specification'.
This invntionrelates to a new und improved device for holding balls or spools of yarn or thread, while knitting, crocheti'ng, or performing similnr work.
The invention consists in having o spindle, which Aposses through the hall or spool, tted in s. frume constructed of u metallic bnr, bent or made of such u form that the spindle may be fitted between its ends, and retained between themby the spring or elastic pressure ofthe bnr or fratrie.
The object of the invention is to obtain o. simple and economical device for the purpose Specified, und one which will admitof having the hall or spool adjusted to it with 'the greatest facility.
The drawing represents a side view of my invention. I
A represents u metallic bar ofsemicirculnr shape, and having its ends bent over in loop-form, as shown at a a, the ends of said bar .which form the i-nner sides of the loops having holes drilled through them, one through each end, directly opposite the outer part of the loops. This bor Aeonstitutes toe frame of the device, to receive and hold u spindle, B, which is simply n nxetal'rod, having its ends of such asizc that they may beiittcd in the holes at the ends ofthe frame, the outer parts of the loops da preventing'tlie spindle being displaced by n longitudinal movement of the some, ns will be fully understood by the drawing. The spindle is fitted in the frame by springing upnrt the ends of the frame. the elastic pressure ofthe letter retaining the spindle in place, and, therefore,- in order to remove the spindle, nll that is necessary is to spring apart the ends of thcfrnme. The frame, ut about its centre, is provided with en eye, b, either a swivel or n fixed one, through which a tape or chain passes. by which the device may be suspended on the arm of the person using it, or to any convenient fixture. The spindle B is passed through the ball or spool, the lutter turning on the spindle, or the spindle turning in ithe frame. In the drawing, o.' ball of yarn is shown on the spindle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim us new, and desire to'secure by Letters Paten t, is-
The combination of the frame A with the spindle B, substantially in the manner as and for the purpose set forth.
The above speciiicntion of my invention signed by me, this 9th day of December, 1867.
FREEMAN F. `MYRICK.
