OTTO G. HITOHCOCK, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
v TRAP-FERRU LE COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 712,379, dated October 28, 1902.
pplication filed March 12, 1902. Serial No. 97,967. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'rro G. H1ToHoooK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trap-Ferrule Covers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the-invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to trap-ferrule covers; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
The object of the invention is to provide a trap-ferrule, more specifically a trap-ferrule cover, of great strength and chea-pness and at the same time with the threaded portion of material having a greater resistance to corrosion than cast-iron, so that when secured in place it may be readily removed.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, as follows:
Figure 1 shows a plan View; Fig. 2, a section on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1.
A marks the cap or body portion of the ferrule cover. This is provided with the raised lug a, preferably of hexagonal shape and to which a Wrench may be applied for screwing the ferrule-cover into 'place or removing it. erably of brass, but of any material having greater resistance to corrosion than cast-iron, is secured in the cap A as the cap A is cast. In other words, the ring B is formed with the screw-thread b and placed in the mold in which the cap A is cast. The casting of the cap A forms a union with the ring B. By
running the thread (9 into the cap A the union. between the cap A and the ring B is strength- ,ened.
In order to prevent the loosening of the ring B by turning, the lugs b are provided, which act as keysand prevent the ring 5 B from turningdn the cap A. The ring B,
A screw'threaded ring B, pref-.
being of brass or similar material, does not so corrode when in place but that it can be easily removed. a A washer'is usually placed upon the face a, so that there is no particular corroding of those parts of the ferrulecover which form the joint. By making the cap A of cast-iron it is preferable to the ordinary entirely-brass ferrule-cover by reason of the fact that the body or cap A is of greater strength than the similar portion of the cap A of the all-brass ferrule-cover. The construction therefore forms a preferable one to an all-brass or an all-iron ferrule cover-. in fact, combines the good features of both.
What I claim as new is 1; A trap-ferrule cover comprising a castiron cap, and a screw-threaded ring of material having greater resistance to corrosion than east-iron and united with the cap by casting, the threads of the ring extending into the iron casting and strengthening the union between the ring and the cap.
2. A trap-ferrule cover comprising a castiron cap, and a screw-threaded ring of material having greater resistance to corrosion than cast-iron and united with the cap by casting, the threads of the ring extending into the iron casting and strengthening the union between the ring and the cap, said ring also being provided with lugs extending into the body of the casting.
3. A trap-ferrule cover comprising the cap portion A, having the washer-surface a; the ring B, united with the cap A, by casting, said ring having the screw-thread b, on its outer surface extending into the casting and strengthening the union between the ring andthe cap and adjacent to the washer-surface at.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OTTO G. HITCHGOOK.
